EVENT REVIEW: Jeff Fultz found himself in the right place at the right time in this event last year. And he outlasted other driver's mechanical problems that propelled him into victory lane for the fourth time in 2001. David Reutimann had the pole and led the first 163 laps before making a pit stop with problems on the rear end of his race car. He never returned to the race. Young Shane Sieg assumed the point for the first time in 2001, running very strong till a rear hub problems ended his night of possible stardom. Kevin Prince found his way to the top when Sieg's car fell off the pace on lap 212 and appeared well on his way to his first career win until his car and Eddie Mercer's car made contact in turn 2 on lap 238. That incident put at the helm for the remaining 12 laps. A strong run was turned in by Kenny Wallace in his first series start since 1994 propelling him to a second place finish. Wallace took his car to the low side of turns one and two when racing resumed on lap 239 moving Brian Hoppe out of second and up on the track. That allowed Randy Gentry, Charlie Bradberry and Freddie Query to round out the top five. That start was Query's only start of the 2001 campaign.
NOTES OF INTEREST:
(1) Two different drivers were in line to win their first career series victory in 2001 and both failed when a mechanical problem sidelined David Reutimann and an accident put Kevin Prince behind the wall.
(2) Jeff Fultz will return to defend his 2001 victory.
(3) Kenny Wallace will make his second consecutive Bristol start with the series.
(4) Many outstanding Rookie-of-the-Year candidates will see the high banks of Bristol Motor Speedway for the first time.
(5) Cars will use a restrictor plate for this event.
