1996 REVIEW: Last July this event was rained out and was rescheduled and run on September 14, 1997. Pinellas Park, FL native Mike Cope drove his Penrose Meat Snacks/Greater Tampa Bay Auto Auction Chevrolet to the win before an enthusiastic crowd. The race was sponsored by Cope's associate sponsor, Greater Tampa Bay Auto Auction. Rounding out the top five were Steven Christian, Toby Porter, Wayne Anderson and Derrick Gilchrist.
NOTES OF INTEREST: ? Over 35 cars have pre-entered this 200 lap event which carries a maximum starting field of 30 racers. ? After competing in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series Pepsi 400 earlier in the day, STP Pontiac pilot will venture north on I-95 and will hop into his Bobby Hamilton, Inc. owned Pontiac and will compete in the Volusia 200. Also pre-entered are former Series regulars Billy Bigley, Jr. and Bobby Gill. ? Dalton, GA's Gill will be the only returning starter to have won a NASCAR Slim Jim All Pro Series event in the seven prior events that have been contested at the 0.500 oval. ? A large crowd should fill the stands as a result of race hungry NASCAR fans already being in the area for the Pepsi 400 at Daytona International Speedway.
STAT OF THE WEEK: After eight races in 1997 there have been no repeat winners. (When this document was printed, the ninth Series race on the 20 race schedule, to be held at Lanier National Speedway on July 3, 1997, had yet to be run.)
