Anderson clan take top honors at season opener at Bullring
LAS VEGAS -- The Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway kicked off its season opener of The Orleans NASCAR Weekly Racing Series Saturday night.
Steve Anderson collected his first win of the season in the NASCAR Late Model division, while his son David Anderson collected his first win in the Legends Cars division.
Steve Anderson took the checkered flag after starting fifth. Anderson moved to the second spot on lap 12 after battling side-by-side with Chuck Trickle. Anderson then took command from race leader Wayne Jacks on lap 22 and maintained his lead to the end.
David Anderson, in his sophomore year, collected his first Legends Cars win after a caution-filled 25-lap main event. On lap 24, Anderson was running third until leaders Spencer Clark and Justin Johnson were involved in an incident that allowed Anderson to take the checkered flag. Rick Rogas finished second followed by Bob Woodsford and Michael Morrissey of Tahoe City, Calif.
In NASCAR Outlaw Stock action, Glenn Burke led the entire 25-lap main event. Len DeJoria finished second followed by Mark Schottmuller and Tom Youmans. Eric Chelberg battled Andrew Murphy of Lancaster, Calif. for the lead in the 10-lap Bandolero Car main event. Chelberg took command on lap four and maintain his lead to take the checkered flag followed by Murphy, Josh Gross and Tom Lovelady. Randy Brown of West Covina collected a win in the Mechanix Wear Speed Truck 100-lap main event. Local Spencer Clark finished fourth along with his father seventh, Casey Kingsland 10th and Danny Williams 13th.
