Thomasville, NC ( June 13 ) The postponement of the NASCAR Goody's Dash Series race, due to rain, on June 3rd has produced the biggest challenge ever for Ricky Bryant and his B/G Motorsports team. Due to sponsor commitments the schedule for Bryant and his Van Camp's Beans team to compete in the World's Best Buy 250 On June 17th, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa could not be changed. With Bryant in the running for a possible championship with Washington Apples in the Dash Series competing in that race is of equal importance. Bryant commented, "We did not really have this in our mind to try to run 2 races in the same day, in different parts of the country, but we have two very fine sponsors who we are committed to and we need to support both. It is a very expensive proposition and obviously there are plenty of things that could go wrong, however I have the support of Washington Apples, Van Camp's Beans, and a great crew so that I feel confident we can pull this off".
Bryant and his team will be in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on Friday morning for practice and qualifying for World's Best Buy 250. This is the 7th race of the ASA AC Delco Series 2000 season. This will be Bryant's first official attempt to qualify for an ASA race. His first attempt at Nashville was derailed when rain washed out qualifying. Bryant did not have any points and therefore when the field was set on point standings Bryant had to load up and head home. On Friday there will be 2 rounds of practice followed by qualifying. The Top 20 cars on speed get into the race. On Friday night there will be a 100 lap qualifying race to fill the remainder of the 34 car field. The race World's Best Buy 250 is slated to take the green flag at Hawkeye Downs Speedway on Saturday afternoon at 2:15 PM. Live TV coverage on TNN at 3 PM ET.
After the ASA race is completed Bryant and some of his crew will immediately leave for the airport and a private jet for the 2 hour and 10 minute flight to North Carolina. Fortunately the airport in Cedar Rapids is only ½ mile from Hawkeye Downs Speedway. Upon arriving in North Carolina Ricky and his crew will land at Person County Airport in Roxboro. This is about 10 minutes from Orange County Speedway site of the 8th Dash race of the season. The Orange County Speedway 125 is slated to take the green flag at 8:30 PM. Bryant and his Washington Apples team are defending winner's of the last 2 NASCAR Goody's Dash races at Orange County. Fortunately for Bryant Dash qualifying and the driver's meetings were already held, before the rains came on June 3rd, and Bryant can start the race in the 8th starting spot where he qualified. Bryant and the Washington Apple team are currently in 2nd place in the championship point standings, 90 points behind Dash Series defending champion Robert Huffman. So far in 7 races this year, in the Dash Series, Bryant has recorded 5 top five finishes, 6 top ten finishes, and he captured the pole at Daytona in February to open the 2000 season.
In all Bryant has the potential to compete in 475 laps of racing this weekend for both events. Bryant's only other comment was to say, " We have a sound plan, and if we get a little luck we can pull this off. It is certainly the biggest challenge our team has ever undertaken. Some of the Cup drivers have been able to do the Indianapolis - Charlotte shuffle on Memorial Day so I think we can pull this off. I feel confident my team can get the job done so we can run both races and represent Washington Apples and Van Camp's Beans with first class efforts. We are going to try our best! "
