DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (September 26, 2001) - Aaron Days of Turlock, Calif., moved back to the top of the standings in the Pacific Coast Region in the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series and claimed the championship in the final week of the season. Days, who competes in the Sportsman Late Model division at Altamont Raceway Park in Tracy, Calif., will collect nearly $42,000 in posted awards for his performance. Days collected nine wins, 15 top-five and 16 top-ten finishes in 18 starts this season.

Mark Welch of Orangevale, Calif., who is the two-time and defending Pacific Coast Region champion, finished second this season. Welch, who competes in the NWRS Modified division at Madera (Calif.) Speedway, earned $21,350 in posted awards. Welch scored five victories and 17 top-five finishes in 18 starts at the .333-mile oval. Bobby Scott of Santa Cruz, Calif., finished third in the regional standings. Scott, who competes in the NWRS dirt Modified division at Watsonville (Calif.) Speedway, collected six victories, 16 top-five and 17 top-ten finishes in 20 starts this season. Scott will collect $15,400 from the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series point fund.

Gary Tamborelli of Escondido, Calif., Orange Show Speedway in San Bernardino, Calif.; Steve Belletto of Modesto, Calif., Stockton (Calif.) 99 Speedway; J.P. Hoff of Fairbanks, Alaska, North Star Speedway in Palmer, Alaska; Sean Woodside of Saugus, Calif., Irwindale (Calif.) Speedway; Dan Holtz of Pacific Palisades, Calif., Mesa Marin Raceway in Bakersfield, Calif., and Todd McLauchlan of Alpine, Calif., Cajon Speedway in El Cajon, Calif., round out the top nine in the first tier of the Pacific Coast Region of the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series for the 2001 season.

Regional champions in the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series are determined by the Competition Performance Index (CPI). NASCAR Weekly Racing Series champions will be honored at the Peabody Hotel and Resort at the national champions banquet on Friday, November 16.
