Before the 2006 Nascar Autozone Elite Division Northwest Series season began, there are some who may not have heard of Jay Sauls, but the 21 year old rookie of Puyallup, WA. is quickly changing that. With two Northwest Series events, and two top tens under his belt, Sauls is making a name for himself that is sure to impress.

Competing in late models all across the Northwest for the last several years, Sauls and his team decided to step up to the Northwest Elite Division for it's final season and it's a decision they are glad they made.

"I've never had so much fun racing as I've had already in these first two races. The level of competition out there is unbelievable. There are so many great drivers and I'm always learning," said Sauls.

Finishing 10th at Meridian Speedway and 7th last weekend at Magic Valley Speedway, Sauls finds himself leading the Sunoco Rookie of the year standings and sits 5th in overall championship point standings, a place this rookie is glad to be.

"I feel very fortunate to be right up there with everyone else in the points and to be leading the Rookie standings is a good feeling. There is a large group of rookies this year and they are all very talented. Securing the Rookie of the Year title is something that wont be easy, but I'm prepared to put up a good fight," said Sauls.
