Jeff Jefferson Repeats as Series Champion Gary Lewis Wins KKRV 150

East Wenatchee, Wash. (Sept. 25, 2004) - Two champions were crowned in the KKRV 150 at Wenatchee Valley's Super Oval as part of the NASCAR AutoZone Elite Division, Northwest Series. Gary Lewis held off Jeff Jefferson to win the race, but Jefferson won the big prize, the series championship.

Going into the night, Jefferson was 15 points behind leader Garrett Evans and nine points behind second-ranked Travis Bennett. Evans was taken out of the mix early in the event by getting caught up in an accident on the fourth lap leaving Bennett and Jefferson to battle for the title. When Jefferson crossed the line in second place and Bennett in fourth, it gave Jefferson his second straight series championship.

Lewis took the lead from Brandon Riehl following that early accident that washed Evans out of the chase for the championship on lap four and kept everyone else at bay the rest of the way including some serious challenges from Jefferson late in the race.

Jefferson's younger brother, Jason, finished in third while Joe Benedetti came home in fifth place. Riehl, Wes Rhodes, Pete Harding, Tom Sweatman and Matt Hall rounded out the top 10.

Jefferson, by finishing two spots ahead of Bennett, won the championship by one point. It was the second time in the history of the series in which one point decided the winner. In 2000, Evans edged Lewis for the top honors.
