A look at the NASCAR Elite Division, Raybestos Brakes Northwest Series Victory Circle Chassis 2003 Rookie-of-the-Year standings.
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (June 30, 2003) - The following is a glance at the NASCAR Elite Division, Raybestos Brakes Northwest Series Rookie class of 2003 heading into the Keglers' Casino "125" at the Wenatchee Valley Super Oval Saturday, July 5. This will be race 7 of 14 on the NASCAR Raybestos Brakes Northwest Series schedule. After the race at Magic Valley Speedway June 14, Jason Jefferson holds a ten-point lead over Jeff Bailey for the Victory Circle Chassis Rookie-of-the-Year Award.
No. 1 - Jason Jefferson (No. 97 Northwest Dodge Dealers Dodge), Simonson Racing. Last week's ranking: 1st. Jefferson was the top finishing rookie at Magic Valley Speedway with a fifth place finish. Jefferson has held the top spot in the Victory Circle Chassis ROTY standings since the opening race and has collected rookie-of-the-race on four occasions this season.
No. 2 - Jeff Bailey (No. 27 Frank & Son Auto Body Chevrolet), Bailey Racing. Last week's ranking: 2nd. Bailey finished 18th at Magic Valley after winning his first career Bud Pole Award. Bailey has improved to ninth in the overall standings. Bailey has started all six races thus far this season and has a career best finish of third at Tri-City Raceway.
No. 3 - Rod Schultz Sr. (No. 01 RES Investments Chevrolet), RES Racing. Last week's ranking: 5th. Schultz Sr. finished eighth at Magic Valley Speedway to collect his third top ten finish of the season. Schultz jumps two spots in the rookie race and improves to 11th in the overall standings.
No. 4 - Brain Saling (No. 23 Pantrol Ford), Fast Fever Racing. Last week's ranking: 4th. Saling finished 21st at Magic Valley Speedway. Saling has started all six events this season with his best finish of 10th coming at Tri-City Raceway back in April.
No. 5 - Ken Smith (No. 92 Big O Tires Chevrolet), Smith Racing. Last week's ranking: 3rd. Smith did not compete in the event at Magic Valley Speedway and subsequently dropped two positions in the Victory Circle Chassis Rookie-of-the-Year standings.
No. 6 - Brandon Riehl (No. 68 Darrel's Economy Mufflers Chevrolet), Riehl Racing. Last week's ranking: 6th. Riehl scored his second consecutive top ten finish and was the third rookie to score a top ten finish at Magic Valley. His 9th place finish boosted his standing in the overall point standings to 17th. Riehl has qualified for five of the first six races with his best qualifying position of second coming in the season's first two races. Riehl also collected the Powerade Power Move-of-the-Race Award and the $750 bonus for improving the most positions in the Magic Valley Speedway event.
No. 7 - Rod Schultz Jr. (No. 01 RES Investments Chevrolet), Schultz Racing. Last week's ranking: 7th. Schultz Jr. finished a disappointing 19th at Magic Valley Speedway. Schultz Jr. has qualified for five of the first six races of the season with his best finish of 17th coming in the season opener at Evergreen Speedway.
No. 8 - Robb Touchette (No. 45 Alternative Blasters Chevrolet), Touchette Racing. Last week's ranking: 6th. Touchette did not compete at Magic Valley Speedway. Touchette has started only two races this season, both at Evergreen Speedway where he has a 7th and a 2nd place finish.
No. 9 - Robert Tesch (No. 96 Tesch Family Racing Chevrolet), Tesch Family Racing. Last week's ranking: 9. Tesch has started four of six races contested so far this season with his best finish of 18th at Yakima Speedway back in May. Tesch has nearly 20 years experience of dirt track racing on his resume' and is improving each race as he learns pavement Late Models.

Victory Circle Chassis' offers a season ending bonus of $5,000 to the top finishing rookie at season ending banquet in October. Each rookie competitor earns rookie points for each race they start. No rookie points are awarded for races a rookie fails to qualify for. Points are awarded on a declining scale with the top finishing rookie receiving 10 points then 9,8.7 and so on. Each rookie will count their best 12 finishes of the 14 race schedule towards the 2003 Rookie-of-the-Year championship.
