DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (August 20, 2003) - With time running out on his NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series New England Region championship bid, Grandview Speedway Modified driver Jeff Strunk suffered yet another weather-related setback last weekend. According to NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series rules, feature division drivers must compete in a minimum of 18 races in order to be eligible for a regional championship. Strunk, of Bethel, Pa., has only raced 12 times this year, due to wet weather throughout the summer, and was rained out again last weekend. With five weeks left before the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series season concludes Sept. 21, Strunk is hoping for drier skies in the weeks ahead. In order to make up for the rained-out events, Grandview Speedway has scheduled twin feature races Aug. 23. Elsewhere in the New England Region, Eric Berndt, of Rocky Hill, Conn., and Scott Bonney, of North Chelmsford, Mass., improved to second and third, respectively, in this week's regional rankings after winning feature races at their home tracks last weekend. Bobby Babb Jr., of Windham, Maine, moved up one position, to fourth, after recording his 10th top-five finish in 14 starts at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough, Maine. Although he finished in the top 10 for the 12th consecutive race this season at Claremont (N.H.) Speedway, Dwight Jarvis, of Ascutney, Vt., dropped to fifth place in the New England Region standings this week. While Strunk, who has led the regional standings for seven consecutive weeks, struggles with Mother Nature to complete his racing season, many of his challengers face the same dilemma - Berndt, Bonney and Jarvis have only completed 12 starts themselves, due to wet weather that has covered New England throughout the summer. <pre> THIS WEEK'S TOP 10 ...
