A graduate of Embry Riddle University, Mike enjoyed a 21 year career as a NASCAR pilot. A hobby turned profession, Mike always considered himself lucky to do what he loved as a profession. Flying was one of the loves of his life. At the time of his death, Mike was in the midst of building his own airplane, which had been a life-long dream.
Mike was born in Lima, Ohio and served six years in the U.S. Navy. He moved to Florida to attend Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, then married and stayed in the area to raise his family. He loved to travel and was an avid hiker. He belonged to the Florida Trail Assn and had hoped to hike the entire Florida Trail System.
Married for 24 years, Mike was a devoted husband and father to his wife and three sons. "His kids were everything to Mike." He is survived by Wendy, who enjoyed 24 married years together, his three sons Rob and daughter-in-law Leila, Dan and Andy, his father and stepmother Alan and Jane Klemm, his sisters Julie Fortman, Amy Bruskotter, Jill Klemm, his brothers Steve, Brian, Eric and wife Beth, and Chris and wife Jenny, numerous brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews.
