Terry Baldry will make return to Re/Max Challenge Series, NASCAR Touring as series travels to his backyard.
DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. (June 3, 2002)--The best RE/MAX Challenge Series, NASCAR Touring competitors return to Wisconsin International Raceway, Friday night, June 7, for the running of the Oneida Bingo & Casino 250. But they'll have an unexpected surprise waiting for them: a challenger by the name of Terry Baldry.
Baldry, an eight time Fox River Racing Club late model champion at the Kaukauna, Wisconsin oval is scheduled to make his first series start in 4 years, behind the wheel of the EDS Motorsports, E-Z Lube sponsored Chevrolet.
"They stopped me as I was leaving the race track last Thursday night and asked me if I was interested in the ride," recalls Baldry. "After checking with my Thursday night team, we decided it would be a fun opportunity."
On track activity begins Friday with practice from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. (CT). Qualifying is slated for 5:30 p.m. with the quickest twenty drivers automatically advancing to the Oneida Bingo & Casino 250. A 20-lap last chance qualifying race is slated for 7:00 p.m. with the top six advancing to the main event. Up to four additional drivers will be added via provisional starting spots based on current RE/MAX Challenge Series championship point standings.
Baldry's last series start came on October 11, 1998 at LaCrosse (WI) Fairgrounds Speedway. Since then he's been tearing up the competition on a weekly basis at Wisconsin International Raceway and at selected specials throughout the state.
"I wouldn't be doing this if I didn't think I had a good chance to win," said Baldry. "There are some adjustments that I'm going to have to make because the car and the tires are a little different than what we race weekly, but we should be fine."
Baldry owns 51 career feature wins at the .50-mile oval in Kaukauna, but he doesn't feel as though that will give him an advantage over the rest of the field.
"Steve Carlson is real fast there, Brian Hoppe has won there before and I hear Scott Hansen is coming back, so I'm not going to have an advantage over veterans like that," said Baldry.
The RE/MAX Challenge Series is one of eight NASCAR Touring Series that blanket the United States. NASCAR Touring Series are extremely popular with fans and competitors.
