DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (September 26, 2001) - Jeff Aikey of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, scored his first NASCAR Weekly Racing Series regional championship in the Midwest Region. Aikey, who competes in the NWRS dirt Late Model division at Farley (Iowa) Speedway, captured nine victories and 16 top-five finishes in 18 starts at the .500-mile dirt oval this season. Aikey will earn over $42,000 in posted awards.

Denny Eckrich of Tiffin, Iowa, held on to finish second in the regional standings. Eckrich, who competes in the NWRS dirt Late Model division at West Liberty (Iowa) Speedway, collected six victories this season and will earn over $21,000 for his performance. Eckrich has 16 top-five finishes in 18 starts at the .500-mile dirt oval.

Clint Bowyer of Emporia, Kan., maintained his position to finish third in the region. Bowyer, who competes in the NWRS dirt Modified division at O'Reilly Auto Parts Speedway at Heartland Park in Topeka, Kan., captured nine victories this season. Bowyer had 15 top-five and 16 top-ten finishes in 18 starts and will collect $15,400 from the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series point fund.

Leon Zeitner of La Vista, Neb., Crawford County Speedway in Denison, Iowa; Joe Kosiski of Omaha, Neb., Nebraska Raceway Park in Omaha, Neb.; Chris Spieker of Massena, Iowa, Adams County Speedway in Corning, Iowa; Kelly Shyrock of LeMars, Iowa, Madison (Minn.) Speedway; Don Shaw of Ham Lake, Minn., Viking Speedway in Alexandria, Minn., and Bob Moore of Sioux City, Iowa, Neb., Park Jefferson (S.D.) Speedway round out the top nine in the first tier of the Competition Performance Index (CPI) ratings in the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series Midwest Region for the 2001 season.

Regional champions in the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series are determined by the Competition Performance Index (CPI). NASCAR Weekly Racing Series champions will be honored at the Peabody Hotel and Resort at the champions banquet on Friday, November 16.
