Martinsville, VA---NASCAR's top Late Model Stock car drivers will come to Martinsville Speedway for the $91,095 Taco Bell 300 on Sunday, September 24 and one thing is certain--it will be a wild event. NASCAR's richest Late Model Stock event, paying $15,000 to win, always produces wild action from qualifying to finish. Last year, 122 cars battled for 42 starting positions. Only 20 of those are decided in time trials with the other 22 determined in four 25-lap qualifying races starting at 12:30 p.m. on race day. Robert Powell of St. Matthews, SC, who started tenth, won last year's race and took home $27,500. But to win he had to survive eight lead changes among six drivers, a race record 16 caution flags for 78 laps, an event that was extended by 20 laps to finish under the green flag and only 17 of 42 cars, ten of them heavily damaged, running at the finish. And to top it all off, Ray Young of Bassett, VA was right on Powell's bumper at the finish. Also finishing on the lead lap were Dean Ward of Winston-Salem, NC, Stacy Puryear of South Boston, VA, Stephen Grimes of Siler City, NC, David Hyder of Trinity, NC, Jimmy Mullins of Collinsville, VA, Robert Turner of Burlington, NC, Jamey Caudill of Four Oak, NC, Terry Dease of Oxford, NC, Ricky Hendrick of Harrisburg, NC and Chad Harris of Stuarts Draft, VA. And with the stars of all the weekly tracks on hand, this year's running will be just as wild if not wilder. Leader at halfway will receive the $5,000 BB&T award while a number of the leaders will be inverted. The race also will be slowed at lap 190 with the cars lined up single file for a ten-lap, green flag shootout to the finish. Tickets for the Taco Bell 300 are unreserved and are $20 for adults with children ages 6-12 $5. The race kicks off a big week with Bud Pole qualifying set for Friday, September 29, the Goody's Body Pain 200 NASCAR Featherlite Modified Tour race at 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 30 with the NAPA AutoCare 500 Winston Cup race the next day at 1 p.m. Excellent reserved seats still are available in the towers and concrete areas for the NAPA AutoCare 500 from $40-$65 and can be ordered by calling toll free 877-722-3849 or 540-956-3151. Tickets also may be ordered online at www.martinsvillespeedway.com.
