Drivers Gunning For Special Awards In Made In America Whelen 300

MARTINSVILLE, VA (Aug. 18, 2005) - The teams entered in the Made In America Whelen 300 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour event at Martinsville Speedway on September 3 will be gunning for more than first-place money.

Clarence's Steak & Seafood House, Chatlee Boats and Sparks Oil have all come on board as special sponsors for the first night race at Martinsville Speedway.

"These sponsors stepping up just makes the Made In America Whelen 300 an even bigger event than planned," said Martinsville Speedway president Clay Campbell. "This is a great bonus for the drivers and teams."

Clarence's Steak & Seafood House, which has been involved in racing for more than four decades, will post a $1,500 award to the halfway leader of the 250-lap feature race. The check will be presented at the halfway break on lap 125 by a representative of the restaurant, which is located a mile south of Martinsville Speedway.

Chatlee Boat & Sporting Goods will sponsor the 50-lap last chance race at 7 p.m. on September 3. The top 15 finishers in the Last chance Race presented by Chatlee Boat & Sporting Goods will advance to the 250-lap main event. The Sanford, NC, company is a long-time backer of racing throughout the region.

Sparks Oil/Sunoco of Reidsville, NC, will present the Made In America Whelen 300 pole winner a check for $1,000. Sparks Oil/Sunoco is the official supplier of fuel to Martinsville Speedway.

The Made In America Whelen 300 kicks off Friday, September 2 with the first practice session at 5 p.m. Time trials are scheduled for 8:30 p.m. followed by an autograph session.

Action gets under way on Saturday, September 3 with a one-hour practice session at 3:30 p.m. A 50-lap last-chance race is set for 7 p.m. with the 250-lap feature event scheduled to take the green flag at 8:30 p.m.

The first 20 starting positions in the 250-lapper will be filled by time trials. The next eight slots will be filled according to points' standings. Positions 29 through 43 will go to the top 15 finishers in the last-chance race.

Tickets for the Labor Day weekend Modified event are $20 are on sale and may be purchased by calling Martinsville Speedway at 877.RACE.TIX or visiting Martinsville Speedway's website, www.martinsvillespeedway.com.

Anyone purchasing tickets for both the Made In America Whelen 300 and the Bailey's 300 Late Model Stock race on October 9 can purchase both tickets for $30, a $5 discount on each ticket.
