Rock Hill, S.C. native and NASCAR Goody's Dash Touring Series driver B.J. Mackey is eagerly looking forward to the upcoming Van Camp's/Piggly Wiggly 100 racing event, scheduled for this Saturday, August 12, 2000, at the famed Myrtle Beach Speedway in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The Daly Racing, LLC, #84 Van Camp's/Horton Homes Pontiac team is coming off of back-to-back wins at Greenville-Pickens Speedway in Greenville, S.C. and Southern National Speedway in Kenly, N.C.
Mackey feels confident of his chances to bring home three in-a-row. Mackey states, "A lot of people are already looking forward to and planning for the race coming up at Bristol on August 23rd. We are trying to remain focused on this weekend at Myrtle Beach. We have back-to-back wins and the team has been putting in a lot of long, hard hours to enhance our chances of making it three in a row. I like running at Myrtle Beach. It's one of my favorite tracks. We finished third there last year. Also, Jan Smith, our engine builder, got a new engine to us and we installed it into the car this week. Jan has assured us that the engine will be strong. He has given us great engines all year, so I am confident that we will be ready when the green flag drops on Saturday. We have made a few other changes to the chassis set up that I fell good about too. We're going to be fast and if I can stay out of trouble during the course of the race, we have a really great chance to win."
Jeff Daly, of Daly Racing, LLC, echoes similar sentiments. Says Daly, "Van Camp's is a major sponsor for this racing event in Myrtle Beach and a major sponsor for the #84 Daly Racing Pontiac. Van Camp's is a very significant part of our program and we are extremely proud and excited to have an opportunity to continue to prove to Van Camp's that they have joined a winning team. It would really be wonderful to bring to Van Camp's a third victory for the 2000 season." "My father Gene and my brother Mike, my partners and co-owners of Daly Racing, LLC, are immensely pleased with B.J.'s performance and success this year. B.J. and his team will be ready come Saturday night," smiled Daly.
Robert Huffman and his #37 White House Apple Juice Pontiac will be defending his win last year, at the .538 mile tri-oval track. Huffman, the current Series Points Leader, won his sixth race of the 1999 season by posting a .753 second victory over second place finisher Jimmy Britts. Huffman also has three race wins here at Myrtle Beach Speedway. Justin Hodgood, last years Pole Winner, will also be vying for a chance at the front slot again this year. Johnny Chapman, the remaining current series driver to post a victory here, will be another tough competitor entering the event.
Saturday's event will be the 17th time that the NASCAR Goody's Dash Series has visited the Myrtle Beach Speedway. Racing activities will begin on Friday, August 11, 2000 at the NASCAR Café located on Highway 17 in North Myrtle Beach. Beginning at 3:30 P.M., cars will be available for racing fans to view. This will be a great opportunity to seek an autograph from your favorite Dash Series driver.
States driver B.J. Mackey, "Myrtle beach is a great track for racing fans. It was originally a dirt track constructed back in 1958. It was replaced with asphalt sometime around 1978 and the dog leg added to the front strait expanded the tri-oval to its current .538 mile configuration. The track's history is rich when you consider that legends such as Richard Petty, David Pearson, Donny and Bobby Allison, Ned Jarrett, three generation of Earnhardts including Ralph, Dale, Dale, Jr., Jeff and David Green and a host of others have raced at this track. I am excited to have an opportunity to add my name next to the legends of NASCAR racing fame." Smiled Mackey, "If you want to see exciting, action packed racing, I really encourage everyone to join us at Myrtle Beach Speedway this weekend. We have quite a crowd that will be following us down from Rock Hill and we intend to put on a great show for our fans." "This track provides the fans with an up close vantage point to view and enjoy some of the most thrilling and spine tingling racing available anywhere," stated Mackey.
