Irwindale, Calif. - - Irwindale Speedway's premier weekly NASCAR division, the highly-competitive Super Late Models, will once again wear the banner of the Food 4 Less chain of discount grocery stores. The just-named "Official Grocery Stores" of Irwindale Speedway will see their banner flying over 18 Super Late Model contests beginning with opening night March 17 when the Food 4 Less Super Late Models will start the season off in high gear with a 100-lap race that's expected to draw more than 60 entries to fill the 32-car main event field.

"With the kind of racing that we had in this division last season, and the added interest that Food 4 Less brings to the table, I know that we're in for a spectacular season," Competition Director Chris Morgan indicated. "These cars and drivers are some of the best combinations that anyone has seen on any track in the country. They've got speed and savvy, and they know that winning here at Irwindale is the real thing. This track's reputation for competitive racing is second to none. "A win here is an important victory and the championship series is as competitive as any going," he added.

The Food 4 Less name and sponsorship will also be prominent as the title sponsor of two of the 2001 season's Winston West races (May 12 and July 21) and all three of the facility's Featherlite Southwest Series races (April 21, June 9 , and September 1)

"We welcome our good friends from Food 4 Less back to Irwindale for their second season of partnership in our racing program, they're great people to work with and have a lot of enthusiasm for motorsports in general and Irwindale Speedway in particular," Morgan concluded.

The Food 4 Less NASCAR Super Late Models are the Speedway's premier weekly racing division. These 3,050-pound full-size domestic stock cars feature 360 cubic inch V-8 motors, aluminum racing heads, and a 500 CFM (cubic feet per minute) carburetor with a track-specified restrictor. Featuring full-race tube frames; a stock-appearing fiberglass body and trick paint job completes this big, fast, and very competitive package.

Greg Voigt relied on top-5 finishes to earn the 2000 NASCAR Super Late Model Championship title as well as the Miller Lite Big 10 Challenge. While he never dominated the series, only winning the opening night race, the Santa Barbara driver's grit and consistency garnered him the top honors in a tough division. <pre> 1) Greg Voigt Santa Barbara 810 2) Ben Walker North Hills 710 3) Tommy Fry Simi Valley 706 4) Tim Woods III Chino 654 5) David Brandon Palmdale 644
