GAINSVILLE, GA. - Goody's Dash Series second generation driver Jake Hobgood flirted with victory several times this season as the Winnsboro, SC driver collected four runner up finishes in 1999. Hobgood was able to finally land his first win of the season Saturday night in the Carolina Turkey 150 at Lanier National Speedway. Hobgood, who along with younger brother Justin continue race out of the same shop their dad and Goody's Dash Series veteran Will Hobgood made famous, held off Zach Brewer in a green, white and checker finish. Former series champion Johnny Chapman followed in third with Eddie Kelley and Justin Hobgood completing the top five.

"I can't say enough about how it feels to win a race like this," said Jake Hobgood. "To be able to win with the competition so tight really says something about the caliber of team you have and I owe this win to the guys at the shop who have never stopped working all year long on this car."

Jake Hobgood started on the outside pole and took the lead from Robert Huffman who started from the Bud Pole position and the duo delighted the crowd as they exchanged the lead five times over the next 11 laps around the tight 3/8 paved oval at Lanier National Speedway.

Jake Hobgood said the tight racing at the beginning wasn't planned it just happened to occur between the drivers.

"Rob (Huffman) is a great racer and I knew he would give me room and I tried to return the favor," added Hobgood. "I know this had to be great for the fans in the stands but we really wanted to save our tires early in the race."

Jake Hobgood held the lead until lap 55 when Jimmy Britts, Jr. took over the lead and remained in front until Huffman recaptured the top spot on lap 86. Britts then passed Huffman on lap 96 and remained in front until lap 131 when he spun in turn four to bring out the seventh of nine caution flags during the 150 lap event.

Huffman appeared to be headed for the win until Link Kiser spun in front of the leaders on lap 145 which caused Huffman to spin while in the lead.<bigger><bigger>

<smaller><smaller>The win enabled Jake Hobgood to shave 37 points off of Huffman's lead in the chase for the Goody's Dash Series championship. While Brewer used his second place finish to move into third place for the NAPA Oil Filters Rookie of the Year title. Britts still leads in the standings with Roger Sawyer second.
