</pre> (West Salem, WI)- Veteran Midwest Fuels NASCAR late model competitor Steve Holzhausen bided his time until Lap 63 to make his move on early race leader Isaak Owen. Holzhausen went on to claim the checkers, followed across the line by point leader Kevin Nuttleman, Andy Burgess, Brad Powell and Paul Proksch. Todd Oliver led the first circuit, but would soon surrender his lead to Owen, who would maintain the top spot for sixty two circuits. By lap 6 Nuttleman had moved into the second position with Burgess and Holzhausen in tow. Holzhausen made his move around Nuttleman and into second on lap 23, opening the door for Burgess to take the third position. Three cautions slowed the NAPA 100, the first occurring on lap 30 when Bob Timm and Mike Koeneke slammed into the front straightaway concrete. Owen had a sizable lead over Holzhausen, Burgess, Nuttleman and Proksch when the half-way break occurred at lap 54. The final 46 laps were run caution free, allowing many drivers to make late race surges. Nuttleman would make a move from fourth to second in the final forty laps with second place point man Powell making daring moved in an attempt to keep pace with the five-time track champion. Powell tried to follow Nuttleman past Burgess but was unsuccessful as his car washed up the track, placing him in a heated battle with Proksch for the fourth spot. Powell would maintain his position but was unable to make up the track position lost to the top three. Mark Lamoreaux finished sixth, last week's feature winner Tony Bagstad recovered form an early race accident to finish seventh, Isaak Owen dropped to eighth, followed by Tom Carlson and Mike Belling. The 2000 Midwest Fuels Late Model Champion will be crowned next Saturday night, September 9. Going into the NAPA 15, Ray Hutson Chevrolet Sportsman point leader Dan Gilster held a two point lead over second place Corey Jankowski. With Jankowski having to use a provisional to make the field, Gilster had a great opportunity to gain valuable championship points. Sam Andersen would stand in his way, as Gilster would be unable to move around Andersen in the closing laps, having to settle for second. However Gilster will go into next week's competition with a 25 point lead over Jankowski who finished 11th. Andersen would gain the lead on lap 2, having to hold off numerous challenges from Chand Wehling. With four laps to go Gilster would take the high line around Wehling and make a bid for the lead as the two leaders received the white flag. Andersen would prevail, Gilster settled for second, followed by Wehling, Jimmy Gilster and Chuck Timm. It was a big night for young driver Mark Challet, he recorded his first heat and feature wins in the United Auto Supply Thunderstox Saturday night. Challet pulled away from his competitors early, with the remainder of the field running two and sometimes three wide for the second spot and beyond. Bill Inglett would win the battle for second, Dale Jacob brought home third place honors, while Jason Stark and Jason Bolster rounded out the top 5. Next Saturday night marks the final night of the regular season, as Five Star Telecom presents a full night of racing action, including the United Auto Supply SHOOTOUT!!! Midwest Fuels Late Models, Ray Hutson Chevrolet Sportsman and the United Auto Supply Thunderstox will all be on hand. Then on Saturday night September 16 it is the EVE OF DESTRUCTION, featuring the Trailer Race of Destruction.
