Kerry Kratz Kould Be Kontender For Grandview Title Kash

BECHTELSVILLE, PA April 6, 2001 . . . Talk about the NASCAR Modified championship battle at Grandview Speedway this season and most will want to talk about former champions Terry Meitzler, Craig VonDohren and Jeff Strunk. However, one of the dark horse candidates to be in the thick of the battle for the lucrative track title (which earns cash from two separate point funds) and NASCAR regional money is Kerry Kratz. The veteran racing talent has been a regular at the Berks County clay oval since 1990. He has been to victory lane and he has been "in the battle for the title" but the championship has eluded him. He finished a close third to champion Jeff Strunk and challenger Terry Meitzler last season. In fact he has finished third three seasons in a row. Kratz would like to see those two and the rest of the NASCAR Modified racers chase him for the title this year. The Don Schaeffer owned team, with sponsorship from Hatfield Quality Meats and Steve's Corner Deli (Gilbertsville) along with Derstine Sandblasting, RS Machine, J&L Speed Equipment and Litech Motorsports, have put together a powerful team with one goal, winning the title. Kratz, who resides in Bechtelsville with wife Trina and three year old son Aaron, will join a long list of other top dirt stock car racers in action at Grandview Speedway on Saturday night (April 14) with the NASCAR Modifieds. Battling Kratz for a top spot will be Jeff Strunk, Meitzler, VonDohren, Tom Mayberry, Chip Slocum, Glenn Strunk, Donny Erb, Dennis Bailey, Kenny Gilmore and a host of others. Racing action starts at 5 p.m. Joining the NASCAR Modifieds on Saturday night will be the NASCAR Late Models lead by four time and defending champion Dean Stoudt. And during the month of April the PA Sportsman will be part of the tripleheader shows. Grandview Speedway, one of the most popular short track operations in the area, will switch to their regular Saturday night schedule on May 5. Featured will be the NASCAR Modifieds and Late Models with a 7:30 p.m. starting time. Grandview Speedways is located on Passmore Road, just off Route 100, in Bechtelsville, 10 miles north of Pottstown, PA.
