STUART, Va. (July 17, 2000) - Jon Wood finished 3rd in Saturday's race at New River Valley Speedway. Wood returned to his home track for a 200-lap NASCAR late model stock feature.

Wood qualified 19th and raced his way into the 8th position before the half way point, which yielded a break for the teams two change two tires and re-fuel. The field was inverted and Wood's Duncan Ford-Mazda Taurus was chosen to start the second half of the feature in 5th.

Wood raced to 3rd by lap 127 and survived the 200-lap event, which was plagued with eleven cautions.

Quoting Jon: "We knew we had a much better race setup than we did a qualifying package and it showed. We were very fast in the first 100 laps of the race and survived a high attrition rate. We avoided all of the wrecks tonight and posted a solid finish. We wanted to win tonight so we're a little disappointed but this was a good test for us before we race here next week in the Hooters Series. I'm excited about racing at New River again next week and I hope all the seat time I have here proves to be beneficial."

Notes of Interest:

- Jon Wood, a rookie in the Hooters Pro Cup Series, is currently 7th in the point standings.
