Britts Sixth In Nascar Goody'S Dash At Myrtle Beach

Myrtle Beach, SC. - Jimmy qualified the #92 NASCAR Goody's Dash Horsepower by Hedrick \ NAPA Auto Parts Pontiac Sunfire eighth Saturday Night after a hard crash in practice almost ended the day early. The car was fast right off the trailer and after about 10 practice laps Jimmy pitted to make some fine tuning adjustments and scuff his tires for qualifying. During this time another car blew a rear end and put gear oil on the track. The track crew cleaned up the spill and put down oil dry. Britts headed back to the track to test the changes and found a patch of oil left on the track, turning the car around and backing hard into the wall. This left Jimmy with a sore neck, the car with a bent rear clip, and the crew with a lot of work to try and get the car fixed in time to qualify. Two hours of cutting, welding and rebuilding by the veteran Southern Speed crew proved successful as the car passed tech in time to make a solid qualifying attempt.

The field took the green flag and the top eight cars broke quickly away from the pack. After a couple of caution periods and restarts the top eight held a tight formation with Britts in the seventh spot. On the next caution Britts made a pit stop for a splash of fuel and an air pressure adjustment by his pit crew, restarting from the 19th spot. Jimmy charged hard with 60 laps to go passing 13 cars to finish sixth. "We were good on long runs, I think we could have contended for the win if this was a 200 lap race" Britts commented.

Britts' moved up to 9th in the season point standings. The next race is at the Bristol Motor Speedway on Wednesday, August 22nd. Jimmy was the '00 Bud Pole Award Winner, '99 Goody's Dash Rookie of the Year, '95 All Pro Series Rookie of the Year and '96 Florida Pro Series Champion.
