Cobb's Results Prove Rookie Driver Best in NASCAR in 2010
MOORESVILLE, N.C. (August 24, 2010) - Rookie driver Jennifer Jo Cobb is strongly carrying the Y chromosome for all aspiring female racers across the country in 2010. Cobb, one of the very few owner/drivers in all of NASCAR's top three series, has proved to be the best female racer in NASCAR's three national touring series in 2010.
Competing in her first full-season in NASCAR, Cobb is the driver of the No. 10 DRIVEN Ford F-150 in the NASCAR Camping World Series. She is one of five females to race in one of NASCAR's top three series in 2010 that includes the Sprint Cup Series, Nationwide Series and Camping World Truck Series. There have been no female drivers who have attempted a Sprint Cup race in 2010 while three females have qualified for at least one Nationwide race and the same in the Camping World Truck Series. Cobb leads them all.
Cobb has more NASCAR starts (16 starts in Truck Series and one start in the Nationwide Series) this season than Danica Patrick (six starts in Nationwide Series), Chrissy Wallace (two starts in Nationwide Series), Michelle Theriault (two starts in Truck Series) and Johanna Long (two starts in Truck Series). She has completed the most laps of all female drivers in the top three series as well. Cobb has an average finish of 24th in the Truck Series which is higher than any other female competitor competing in NASCAR's top divisions now. Cobb's two 14th-place finishes this season are the best of any female racer this season. She has also collected five top-20 finishes and is currently 16th in championship points.
"I think there are a lot of talented female drivers out there," said Cobb. "Our team, we're just moving along, gaining experience and it's starting to pay off. We're not looking to be the best team with a female driver, that's not our intention, but I think we're a young team that has really improved all season long. Hopefully we can continue to do that and finish the season strong."
A strong finish to the season is imperative for the team as they look for sponsorship for 2011. The team will be dependent on finding financial support for continued growth.
"Who isn't looking for sponsorship?" continued Cobb. "But, for us, it's going to be really important. We've made so many strides this season and I feel we can continue to improve next season as well, but it's not going to happen without that support from a sponsor. We're hopeful something will come up."
Cobb and the team will compete in the final nine Camping World Truck Series events this season. Her next race will be this weekend at the Chicagoland Speedway.
