Jacksonville, Florida (April 18 1999) Cool temperatures couldn't keep the fans away from Jax Raceways, as great track conditions, along with a great car count provided the fans with some great racing action on Saturday night.
The Pure Stock Division had a double feature on the ½ mile "D" shaped oval, to make up for last weeks. Point's leader Darren Greenslet would take home top honors for both of those events. Greenslet would be followed across the strip in the first one by, Mark Whitener, Bill Burkhart, Richard Goodwin and Priscilla Yergy. Sixth through tenth was made up of Wade Shrowder, Jimmy Balkcom, Hardy Jarvis, Budda Watson and Ray Pruett.
The second event had three time Powder Puff Champion Karen Greenslet and Priscilla Yergy setting fast time in Qualifying, placing both of the talented women on the front row of the second Pure Stock event. The Start of the race saw Greenslet and Yergy fighting for the lead, with Greenslet getting the advantage, and holding on through a few laps until being spun out, and going to the tail of the field. Yergy would also have the same luck, being spun just a few laps later. Bill Burkhart would take over from there, until Darren Greenslet made is way to the front using the outside grove to make the pass, and held on for his second win of the night. Ray Pruett would also move up to finish second, followed by Mark Whitener, Wade Shrowder and Ron Doan. Sixth through tenth was Chris Combs, Keith Dixson, James Martin, Joey Zimmerman, and Jimmy Balkcom.
Current Points Leader Eddie Holton continues to be "The Dominator" in the Hobby Stock division. Holton and Randy Clark won the heat events, placing Holton on the pole. Holton took off from the drop of the green flag, and never looked back. Defending Champion Tony Callaway crossed for second, with Joey Miller, Rohn Moon and Randy Clark SR. finishing off the top five. Six through tenth was Mark Beebe, Calvin Pike, Robert McCormick, Marty Kelly and Perry Dowling.
The Late Model division saw a great race for the win, as Buddy Gieger set fast time, placing him on the pole. Gieger got the jump on the field, with Steve Whitener in second. Jeff Godbee fell back to fourth. Whitener would over take Geiger, with it looking like Whitener was on his way to two wins in a row. Godbee however had other thoughts. Godbee's car would continue to get better as the laps counted down. Godbee made his way around Geiger, and set his sights on Whitener, and chased down and passed him for the lead, and the win. Whitener would hold on for second with Gieger in third, Homer Leonard and David Crews made up the top five. Sixth through Tenth was Robert McCormick, Buster Delay, JO Nobles Robby Gieger and Chuck Meredith.
The Open Wheel Modified Division had the most exciting racing action of the night. Drivers were using the whole race track to make there way to the front of the field. Numerous drivers came from the tail of the field, after being sent to the tail for racing incidents. Kevin Bayless took home the win, but it was a hard fought battle. Keny Porter came from the tail of the field to battle for the win, but ran out of laps, and settled for second. Ronnie Ponce and Donnie Higginbotham also came from the tail of the field to claim third and fourth, with Robert Balkcom rounding out the top five. Sixth through tenth was made up of Kerry O'Steen, John Byers, Doodle Pipkin, Robert McCormick and Kenny Bayless.
