Irwindale, Calif. - - Round fifteen (of 19) coming up! And, after fourteen grueling races only 48 points (equivalent to just ONE second place finish at ONE race) separate first and second place in the Miller Lite-sponsored NASCAR Food 4 Less Super Late Model Division at Irwindale Speedway. On Saturday night, August 26, Goleta's Greg Voigt and Santa Clarita's Ben Walker will be at it again and making the run of their young careers in the Miller Lite-sponsored contest for a very important Irwindale Speedway NASCAR track title.
"This is exactly what this track was designed to produce," said Pat Patterson, Irwindale's VP of Marketing. "Action-packed, close, and competitive racing lap after lap, the whole season long." And that's exactly what to expect from this first of the five final races in this competition year for the Speedway's top NASCAR weekly division. "This is a great racing show, and these drivers are top talent."
While Voigt and Walker are considered the frontrunners for the crown, both had better think about the advice of baseball legend Satchel Paige to not look back, "… Because someone might be gaining on you." In their case(s) its car 54 and we know exactly where it is: only 48 points behind in third place with one win and a string of very solid finishes. Tim Woods III from Chino is the driver of the 54 car and he and the next five guys in line behind him all have a mathematical chance at the title.
Tommy Fry (Simi Valley) has come on strong in the late season with two wins and a second place and now finds himself within striking distance of the championship as does the ever-consistent David Brandon of Palmdale . While this points struggle is not exactly "anybody's" race there are still a number of names in play for that all-important inscription on the annual winner's trophy.
Fans are advised to plan on a full night of tight, tough racing on Saturday 26 August, as along with the above "Battle Royale"; Irwindale Speedway will present the sharp NASCAR Super Stocks, the growling Grand American Modifieds, the animated American Race Trucks, and the unflagging USAC TQ Midgets.
Friends, that's five full fields of racing cars for the low, low introductory price of only fifteen dollars for adults and five dollars for kids … No, wait a minute … That's not an introductory price, that's Irwindale's standard race event price. What a deal! August 26's the date, Irwindale's the place!
Five divisions of racing action, an early (4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.) live band, free car club show, NASCAR fan participation Trivia Game and on-track contests, even a chance to win the track's Advantage Ford Mustang GT Convertible Pace Car! There's always lots to do and see early at Irwindale. The gates open at 4 p.m. and the first race goes off at 7 p.m.
And, don't forget that the Pits are open to all right after the last race of the evening. It's a great chance to meet the drivers, get an autograph or two, take a photo of your kid sitting in the seat of a real race car, and generally re-live all the night's action all over again among the real heroes of the night, the drivers and their pit crews.
