LAS VEGAS-- Rich Attisani and Scott"The Wizard" Gafforini each collected a NASCAR Late Model win at the Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway Saturday night during The Orleans NASCAR Weekly Racing Series presented by Dodge.
Attisani won the first 30-lap main event after taking the lead on lap seven from Michael Ayers. Attisani maintained his position to capture the checkered flag to post his first NASCAR Late Model win. Rookie Greg Haase finished second followed by Gafforini and Thane Alderman.
"It feels great," Attisani said."We were just lucky to get out front when we did."
Gafforini collected his first win of the season in the second NASCAR Late Model 30-lap main event. Gafforini took command on lap five. Alderman consistently battled"The Wizard" for the lead, but Gafforini was able to hold him off to take the checkered flag. Alderman finished second followed by Ray Hooper Jr. and Chuck Trickle.
"We are trying the best we can," Gafforini said."This is a great deal."
In NASCAR Charger action, Tom Youmans took the lead from race leader Travis Swalwell on lap 17 in the 25-lap main event. Don Sargent took command on lap 21 after Youmans and Swalwell were involved in a racing incident. Sargent won the event followed by Doug Matter and Guy Griebel. Results are unofficial pending post-race technical inspection.
"I saw the door open and I took the opportunity," Allison said.
I.M.C.A. Modifieds took to the Bullring for the first time this season. Mark Allison proved strong as he was challenged by Wayne Morris Jr. and Dan Fitzgerald. Allison held his lead to capture the checkered flag. Fitzgerald took second and Jack Dessaints third.
"I've run this track before," Allison said."It is a great racetrack to race on."
The father-son team of TJ and Spencer Clark returned after being suspended for rough driving March 16. Spencer earned the win while TJ finished second. Justin Johnson finished third followed by Rob Guevara and David Anderson.
"I'm happy to be back." Spencer Clark said.
Tom Lovelady dominated the Bandolero Cars 10-lap main event. Bear Rzesnowiecky finished second to Lovelady, while Josh Gross finished third.
