PENNZOIL TO SPONSOR HOMESTEAD NASCAR GOODY'S DASH EVENT
HOMESTEAD, Fla. (Oct. 28, 1998) - Pennzoil will sponsor the NASCAR Goody's Dash Series race during the Nov. 13-15 Jiffy Lube Miami 300 at the Miami-Dade Homestead Motorsports Complex.
The Pennzoil 50 is one of three races during the final weekend of NASCAR's 50th anniversary celebration. The 1998 Busch Series champion will be crowned in the fourth annual Jiffy Lube Miami 300 prior to the Pennzoil 50 on Sunday afternoon, while the NASCAR Slim Jim All-Pro Series concludes its campaign with a 150-mile race on Saturday afternoon. The weekend opens with practice and qualifying on Friday, Oct. 13.
This will be the fifth visit of the series to Homestead. The first race ever held at the state-of-the-art complex was a Goody's Dash event in 1995, won by Dexter Canipe. Other Homestead winners were David Hutto, Robert Huffman and Danny Bagwell.
Huffman has already clinched the 1998 Goody's Dash championship, by virtue of winning eight races. Other top contenders for the Pennzoil 50 will include Hutto, Mickey York, and defending series champion Mike Swaim Jr.
The Pennzoil 50, a 75-mile race on the 1.5-mile oval, features scaled-down versions of Winston Cup cars, powered by either four-cylinder or V-6 engines. Popular cars in the series include the Chevy Cavalier, Pontiac Sunfire and Grand-Am, Ford Probe, Escort and Mustang, Dodge Avenger, and Toyota Celica. The series, in its 24th season, was the training ground for many Winston Cup drivers, including Michael Waltrip, Davey Allison, Hut Stricklin, Larry Pearson and Rob Moroso.
Pennzoil is a Houston-based energy company with operations worldwide and more than 10,000 employees. The company was founded in 1889. Jiffy Lube International, one of Pennzoil's three subsidiaries, is the world's largest oil change franchiser, with over 1,500 service centers.
A limited number of grandstand seats are still available for the race weekend. Advance ticket buyers are also eligible to reserve tickets for Homestead's inaugural Winston Cup race, the 1999 Jiffy Lube Miami 400. For additional information or to place credit card orders, call (305) 230-RACE (7223).
