DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (September 26, 2001) - John O'Neal of Kansas City, Mo., has claimed the Heartland Region championship in the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series. O'Neal, who competes in the Late Model division at I-70 Speedway in Odessa, Mo., earned 13 trips to victory lane this season. O'Neal has collected 17 top-five finishes in 18 starts at the .625-mile oval and will earn nearly $42,000 in awards for his track and regional performance.

Clint Bowyer of Emporia, Kan., held on to finish second in the regional standings. Bowyer, who competes in the Modified division at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan., scored seven victories, 11 top-five and 16 top-ten finishes in 17 starts at the .500-mile dirt oval. Bowyer will take home $21,350 from the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series point fund. Robbie Dean of Darbydale, Ohio, finished third in the region. Dean, who competes in the Super Late Model division at Columbus (Ohio) Motor Speedway, visited victory lane on six occasions this season. Dean has 15 top-five and 19 top-ten finishes in 22 starts at the .333-mile oval and will collect $15,400 in posted awards.

Kris Stump of Tipp City, Ohio, Kil-Kare Speedway in Xenia, Ohio; Andy Bozell of Portage, Mich., Kalamazoo (Mich.) Speedway; Chuck Winders of Louisville, Ky., Louisville (Ky.) Motor Speedway; Tim Swearengin of Springfield, Mo., Lebanon (Mo.) I-44 Speedway; Jeffrey Letson of Harvest, Ala., Nashville (Tenn.) Speedway USA and Andy Antinoro of Hueytown, Ala., Birmingham (Ala.) International Raceway round out the top nine in the first tier of the Competition Performance Index (CPI) in the Heartland Region of the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series for the 2001 season.

Regional champions in the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series are determined by the Competition Performance Index (CPI). NASCAR Weekly Racing Series champions will be honored at the Peabody Hotel and Resort at the champions banquet on Friday, November 16.
