Special $5.00 ticket for 2nd Anniversary at the Hardeeville Motor Speedway.

HARDEEVILLE, S.C. (July 15, 2002) - On Saturday night, July 27th, the Hardeeville Motor Speedway will celebrate its 2nd Anniversary in operation with a special promotion called "Pack the Track" Night featuring a $5.00 general admission ticket for everyone 12 years of age and older. Children 12 and under will be admitted free. Racing action will have a total of 10 feature races from all local divisions that include the O.C. Welch Ford Lincoln Mercury Late Models, the Legend Cars, Street Stocks, Mini Stocks, Xtreme Stocks and the Road Warriors. The highlight for the 27th is the re-scheduled Demolition Derby with a $500.00 to win purse at stake. Derby ready cars are available for purchase at the Hardeeville Motor Speedway.

During the first two years of operation, the Hardeeville Motor Speedway has hosted a wide variety of touring racing groups as well as special events. HMS has hosted the NASCAR Goody;s Dash Series which competes at tracks such as the Daytona International Speedway, Lowe's Motor Speedway and Bristol Motor Speedway. The USCS Outlaw Winged Sprint Cars have recently made an appearance at HMS where they turned speeds in excess of 120 m.p.h. on the 1/3-mile asphalt oval. The Southern All Star Pro Truck Series, Allison Legacy Cars Series, TB Modifieds, Thunder Roadsters and Three Quarter Midgets from New York and New Jersey have also made HMS a favorite destination on their schedules.

There have been a wide variety of novelty acts at HMS that include Lawnmower racing and wild stunts. In 2001, Sky Lungston made two appearances as he jumped garbage and concrete trucks with his motorcycle. He returned a few weeks later to attempt a world record jump but due to wet conditions, he failed to break the record. Benny "the Bomb" Koske blew himself up in a car and nationally known racing clown, Speedo entertained fans of all ages.

In local racing, 2001 O.C. Welch Ford-Lincoln-Mercury Late Model Champion, Tommy Porter of Savannah, GA is the all-time career feature victory leader with 25 wins. Current Mini Stock competitor, Steven Moore from St. George, SC follows closely with 23 vicotries and Mark Terry from Rincon, GA and Chris Beach of Hardeeville, SC each have 22 wins. Beach is the only competitor not competing at HMS on a regular basis as he is currently racing at the Concord Motorsports Park every week in his quest for the NASCAR Late Model Stock Car championship. Seventy five different drivers have made the HMS victory lane there home in the first two years.

Non-racing related events have included an IPRA Professional Rodeo, Locobazooka Rock Festival, the Hardeeville Amercan Cancer Society Relay for Life, flea markets, religious revivals and gospel concerts, wrestling matches, beach dances and car shows. Plans for many more non-racing activities are currently in the works as the multi-purpose entertainment facility looks to expand its scope of entertainment.

Gates open on Saturday at 4:00 p.m., qualifying begins at 6:00 p.m. followed by the National Anthem at 7:05 p.m. The Hardeeville Motor Speedway is located three miles south of I-95 (exit 5 in SC) on Speedway Blvd./Highway 17 or just ten miles north of Savannah on Speedway Blvd./Highway 17.
