Fontaine races to 24th place finish at Greenville-Pickens.
Chris Fontaine drove the Advance Auto Parts/Discount Auto Parts/Suntrust #46 to a 24th place finish in the Ingles 200 Hills Bros. All Pro NASCAR Touring race at Greenville-Pickens Speedway on April 27.
Before the race, Chris and Miss United States Teen 2002 had signed autographs in the pre-race autograph session for the drivers. Miss Teen United States 2002 appeared at the track compliments of the CJF Racing team.
Preparing for only the second NASCAR race of his second season in the All Pro series, Chris had his gameface on, an expression of serious determination I had not seen since he played hockey as a teenager.
The weekend started on a sour note for the CJF Racing Team when the engine broke a rocker arm in practice. Luckily, Paul Leavens, Mechanic, and the team were able to make repairs before qualifying.
Despite the mechanical problem, Chris qualified the car in 28th position to start the race. By the time the first caution came out on lap 10, Chris was running 29th, but he quickly moved up to 25th before the next caution on lap 24.
On lap 70 a lengthy caution came out and Chris pitted with the leaders. He was lined up in 28th on the restart.
On lap 93 Chris passed a car to take position, and was making a charge for the next spot when he had to get on the brakes for a wreck in turn 3.
On the restart Chris was lined up 26th and after the next caution on lap 108, Chris was lined up 25th.
On lap 120-125 Chris got in a duel for position with the #22 in which they drag raced down the straights and went side by side through the corners, until the caution came out again.
On the restart Chris was in 24th spot. He caught and passed one car before caution came out on lap 151.
On the restart, Chris was lined up in 27th, but he quickly regained position before the yellow came out again when a car hit the pacecar trying to get in the pits while they were closed.
Chris was 24th on the restart on lap 165, and he fought with the #22 for position for 4 laps, until he had to get on the brakes for a car turned around in turn 3. On the restart on lap 175, Chris was 25th.
Several laps later a caution came out, and on the restart, a car spun in front of Chris in turn one, and Chris had to spin to avoid him. Chris did a complete 360, but kept the car off the wall and got it refired.
On the restart, Chris was lined up 27th with 15 to go. He quickly passed three cars, and was working at catching the #17, but ran out of laps. The 24th place finish also puts him 24th in the 2002 Hills Bros All Pro points, moving him up 4 positions.
The next race for the CJF Racing team is the Hills Bros. All Pro race at Birmingham International Raceway on May 11.
