DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (September 26, 2001) - Tom Moriarity of Monroe, Wash., earned his first regional championship in the Great West Region of the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series. Moriarity, who competes in the Super Stock division at Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, Wash., scored four victories, 16 top-five and 18 top-ten finishes in 20 starts. Moriarity will be honored at the champions banquet on Friday, November 16 at the Peabody Hotel and Resort in Orlando, Fla., and he'll collect nearly $42,000 in posted awards.

Lynn Hardy of West Jordan, Utah, finished second in the region. Hardy scored three wins, 15 top-five and 18 top-ten finishes in 18 races this season in the Grand American Modified division at Rocky Mountain Raceways in Salt Lake City, Utah. Hardy will collect $21,350 in posted awards for his performance in the region this season.

Jason Jefferson of Naches, Wash., held on to finish third in the regional standings. Jefferson collected five wins, nine top-five and 10 top-ten finishes in 12 races this season in the Late Model division at Yakima (Wash.) Speedway. Jefferson will take home $15,400 from the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series point fund.

Bruce Yackey of Greeley, Colo., Colorado National Speedway in Erie, Colo.; Bruce Quale of Twin Falls, Idaho, Magic Valley Speedway in Twin Falls, Idaho; Shane Mitchell of Orondo, Wash., Wenatchee Valley Super Oval in East Wenatchee, Wash.; Marc Beebe of Forks, Wash., South Sound Speedway in Tenino, Wash.; Tom Pinkowsky of Vancouver, Wash., Portland (Ore.) Speedway; and Brandon Riehl of Boring, Ore., Tri-City Raceway in Kennewick, Wash., round out the top-nine in the Great West Region of the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series for the 2001 season.

Regional champions in the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series are determined by the Competition Performance Index (CPI). NASCAR Weekly Racing Series champions will be honored at the Peabody Hotel and Resort at the champions banquet on Friday, November 16.
