40Th Season Of Stock Car Racing Gets Green Flag On April 6TH

BECHTELSVILLE, PA MARCH 30, 2002 . . . The 40th consecutive season of stock car racing will get the green flag at the NASCAR sanctioned Grandview Speedway (Bechtelsville, PA) on Saturday, April 6th. Racing action will get started at 6 p.m. NASCAR Weekly Racing Series presented by Dodge Modified and Late Model stock cars will be the attraction throughout the season on Saturday nights except for a couple of special events. The United Racing Club sprint cars will replace the Late Models on June 8th and the T.H.Properties Freedom 76 will feature just the Modifieds on September 14th. The opening night of professional stock car racing will see the Modifieds top off the show with a 40-lap feature that will offer extra bucks for the extra distance feature. A full series of qualifying events will be presented for both the Modifieds and the Late Models with a 20-lap feature topping the evening for the exciting Late Model stock cars. Speedway management has decided to stick with the same admission prices as in the past with $12.00 being the cost of an adult ticket for a regular Saturday night show. In fact even the season opener, the Trevdan Building Supply Night, that includes a special 40-lap feature for the NASCAR Modifieds will be presented with no increase in admission price. For sports fans who want to stick close to home and not have to raid the "piggy bank" stock car racing at Grandview Speedway offers the opportunity for the family to enjoy a great night of auto racing where "stock car racing is a contact sport." There is always free parking and fans are invited to bring their own refreshments. Of course the speedway does offer a full line of concession items and a well stocked souvenir area. Fans can even come early and enjoy the use of one of the picnic tables that are in place around the grounds. Some of the top names in dirt track modified stock car racing will be in action at Grandview Speedway included five time and defending champion Craig VonDohren, former champions Tom Mayberry, Ray Swinehart, Terry Meitzler and Jeff Strunk, along with standout performers such as Meme DeSantis, Kerry Kratz, Randy Bailey, Doug Manmiller and others. In the Late Model action John Durling, the defending champion, will be back in search of a second title. His competition will come from former champions Lou Egrie, Dean Stoudt and John Durling. The Late Model division is expected to attract a stellar field of competitors all throughout the 2002 season. NASCAR Weekly Racing Series presented by Dodge Modifieds and Late Models will be in action at 6 p.m. each Saturday during the month of April. The starting time will switch to 7:30 p.m. on May 4th for the AutoLocator Night. Grandview Speedway is located on Passmore Road, just off Route 100 in Bechtelsville, PA, 10 miles north of Pottstown.
