BECHTELSVILLE, PA September 16, 2000 . . . Former track champion Craig VonDohren wheeled the Stauffer Construction #114 Modified to victory Saturday night in the 30-lap "open competition" Modified stock car feature race at Grandview Speedway. And it was Randy Stoudt grabbing the win, his first of the season, in the 20-lap Late Model feature race. Tom Umbenhauer got his third win of the season in the 15-lap PA Sportsman feature. VonDohren (Barto, PA) came from third to first on the first lap and made it look a little easier than it was as he lead all 30-laps to claim the victory. "We had a good car. It worked on the bottom and on the top. We were able to get through the lapped traffic with no problems," said VonDohren as he celebrated his win and a $2,500 night as he also won his qualifying heat and cash dash. Chip Slocum (Ewing Township, NJ) put the pressure on VonDohren for much of the race but had to settle for a strong second place finish. Glenn Strunk (Bechtelsville) had one of his best efforts of the season grabbing third while brother Jeff, the 2000 NASCAR Modified track champion, had to settle for fourth. And Kevin Hartnett (Perkasie) who gave VonDohren a battle in the early laps earned fifth. In the 20-lap feature for the Late Model stock car feature Randy Stoudt (Pottstown) was in front at the start and lead all the laps to gain his first victory of the season. Rick Todorow (Quakertown) gave chase to Stoudt for several laps but settled in at second in the final laps. Track late model champion Dean Stoudt (East Greenville) took third coming from the back of the pack. Kyle Pensinger (Lyons) finished fourth with Chuck Sennott (Gilbertsville) getting a fifth place finish. Tom Umbenhauer (Lebanon) wheeled the Clay Realty sponsored #88 to the front of the pack on the first lap of the 20-lap feature for PA Sportsman stock cars. And once in front Umbenhauer was able to keep his distance from any challengers and had a comfortable margin of victory at the finish. Second spot went to Joe Biasi, an impressive effort after having to go to the rear of the field because of an early accident. Ryan Bauer earned third followed by Tom Brennan and Leroy Long. Qualifying heat races for the "open" modifieds were won by Jon Kellner, Kevin Hartnett, Craig VonDohren and Meme DeSantis. Consolation race victories were earned by Jack Hartnett and Shawn Reimert. The Cash Dash worth $300 went to Von Dohren. Qualifying heats for the Late Models were won by Kyle Pensinger and Rick Todorow. And the qualifying events for the PA Sportsman went to Umbenhauer and Don Edgar. The final regular Saturday night show of the season takes place on Saturday, September 23. Gates open at 3 p.m. and racing starts at 5 p.m. Featured will be modifieds, late models and PA Sportsman stock cars. A tripleheader show to close out the regular season. A special attraction will be the four feature Thunder on the Hill Series featuring ARDC Midgets, URC Sprint cars, NASCAR Modifieds and Exide ShorTrack Late Models on Saturday, October 21.
