BECHTELSVILLE, PA JUNE 11, 2000 . . .Motor Truck Equipment Co. Kenworth/Cummins PA NASCAR Modified Series champion Jeff Strunk drove the Keith Harring owned Kenworth/Cummins sponsored modified to victory in the 30-lap NASCAR Weekly Racing Series Modified feature at Grandview Speedway on Saturday night. And it was Brian Seidel bringing the Hamm's Service Station/Orefield Auto Parts sprinter home first in the 25-lap Bar's Leaks United Racing Club sprint car feature race. Partial proceeds, a special ticket promotion, went to the Humane Society of Berks County.

Bobby Trapper, having what may be his career best season on the dual track circuit of Grandview and Big Diamond Raceways, lead the first lap. Young Danny Erb moved his Kountry Kitchen entry in front on the second lap setting the pace until the eighth circuit of the one-third-mile, clay oval. By this time Trapper was out with "rear end" problems. Ray Swinehart, two time track champion, was going side-by-side with Erb for the top spot and got it on the 9th lap. Meme DeSantis moved into the fray at the same time. At 12 laps it was Swinehart, DeSantis and Slocum. The half way mark DeSantis gunned into the front with Jeff Strunk following close behind.

At 20 laps DeSantis looked like he might be on his way to a second win for the season. Jeff Strunk was right on his rear bumper and the two swapped the top spot back and forth with five laps to go. On the final lap DeSantis belched flames on the main straightaway while Strunk (Bethel) went on to win. DeSantis (Blandon) managed to hold on for a second place finish followed by Terry Meitzler (Kutztown), Ray Swinehart (Bechtelsville) and Chip Slocum (Ewing Township, NJ).

In the 25-lap feature for Bar's Leaks United Racing Club sprint cars 24 cars took the green with George Suprick taking the lead. Fred Kennedy was an impressive as he ran second in the early part of the event with Brian Seidel coming from eighth to third quickly. Seidel was second by the 10th circuit and was in front of the pack at the 12 lap mark. At the midway point it was Seidel followed by Suprick, Ted Wise Fred Kennedy and Scott Pursell.

Kennedy flipped in the third turn on the 15th lap but walked away.

Curt Michael (Allentown, PA) got the fans attention with a charge toward the front from 11th starting spot. Time ran out for Michael as he settled for third. George Suprick (Clarks Summit, PA) got second and Brian Seidel rode to an impressive first win of the season. The veteran racer became the 7th different feature winner in nine events run this season by URC.

Fourth place was earned by Danny Massey (Mt. Laurel, NJ) with fifth going to Bill Brian Jr. Ephrata, PA (he had won the night before at Williams Grove Speedway).

Sean Michael, the point leader going into the evening, was a spectator as his car was badly damaged in an accident the night before. Scott Pursell took over the point lead finishing seventh in the final feature rundown.

With a huge crowd on hand 65 NASCAR Modifieds tried for qualifying positions in the five qualifying heat races with wins going to Glenn Strunk, Doug Manmiller, Chip Slocum, Meme DeSantis and Terry Meitzler. Consolation wins were earned by Rick Schaffer, Donny Erb and Sam Schoenly. The Automotive Machining Services Cash Dash went to Doug Manmiller and was worth $595. Kochel Equipment First Alternate award went to Jeff Sechrist. And the Timber Wolf Hard Charger Award, worth $200, went (unoffically) to Kenny Gilmore coming from 26th to finish 8th.
