Kline, Desantis and Chrisman are Grandview feature winners.
BECHTELSVILLE, PA MAY 25, 2002 . . . Three features produced three different winners at Grandview Speedway on Saturday night with Ron Kline and Ron Chrisman each winning a 20-lap feature for the NASCAR Late Models and Meme DeSantis getting his second feature win of the season in the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series presented by Dodge Modified 30-lap main event.
In the 20-lapper for Late Models that kicked off the show, this was a feature left from an April 27th rain out and sponsored by the Checkered Flag Fan Club, Ron Kline put his Ben Lopez Plaster & Stucco sponsored entry in front of the pack at the drop of the green and lead all 20-laps to gain his first feature win of the season. Dean Stoudt (East Greenville) was able to come from 11th to put some pressure on Kline in the final laps but fell about a half car length short of catching the leader. Third spot went to Lou Egrie (Huntington Valley) followed by Ron Chrisman (Schwenksville) and John Giesler (Aston). Kline (Salfordville) was running a 6 cylinder Late Model in his victory effort, winning his fourth career feature, while 95% of the starting field of 26 cars had 8 cylinder race cars.
In the second 20-lapper for Late Models Ron Chrisman (Schwenksville) had his hands full with Jason Miller and Lou Egrie for the second half of the feature event. The three battled for the victory, often times side-by-side, with Chrisman getting the edge at the checkered flag. Second spot went to Miller (New Tripoli) followed by Lou Egrie, Rick Todorow (Quakertown) and John Giesler. The win was Chrisman's second career victory and came in his own Built by Berger/Ed Stierly Excavating sponsored Late Model.
Meme DeSantis , in the Norm's Save Station/Berks #357, had to work hard for his second NASCAR Modified feature win of the season in a close down to the wire finish in the 30-lap, 29 car main event for NASCAR Weekly Racing Series presented by Dodge Modifieds, against current track point leader Kerry Kratz. Todd Marburger had the lead at the drop of the green with Shawn Reimert taking the front on the fourth circuit of the one-third-mile, banked clay oval. DeSantis came from 10th to take the lead on the ninth lap and that is where he stayed for the balance of the main event. Kerry Kratz (Bechtelsville) put tremendous pressure on the Temple, PA racer but despite getting side-by-side with the leader had to settle for second. Third spot went to Keith Brightbill (Mohnton) who was trying for a clean-sweep having won his heat race and cash dash. Craig VonDohren (Oley) charged to the top five, settled in at fourth, and was unable to gain any ground on the leader. Jeff Strunk (Bethel), who came from far back in the field, earned a fifth.
Qualifying heats for the 55 modifieds were won by Keith Brightbill, Terry Meitzler, Ryan Watt, Jon Kellner and Ray Swinehart. The consolations went to Kevin Hartnett, Steve Swinehart and Doug Manmiller. Brightbill earned the Cash Dash victory worth $370.
Late model qualifying heats for the 35 entries were won by Jason Miller, Ron Chrisman and Dean Stoudt while Chuck Schutz, the point leader, had to qualify through the consolation event.
