BECHTELSVILLE, PA JUNE 25, 2000 . . . "I can almost run here with one hand tied behind my back," was the comment from Terry Meitzler in victory lane after winning the 30-lap O'Connor Truck Centers/Freightliner NASCAR Modified feature at Grandview Speedway on Saturday night. It was his second win in as many weeks and his third of the season. In the companion 20-lap NASCAR Exide ShorTrack Late Model feature race Junior Grebe was able to win his first of the season. After seeing Meitzler, the current modified point leader at Grandview and sitting on top in the chase for the lucrative Motor Truck Equipment Co. Kenworth/Cummins PA NASCAR Modified Championship Series (Big Diamond and Grandview Speedways), win for the third time this season some of the other racers may just ask him "to run with one hand tied behind his back." Meitzler came from 15th starting spot and earned $2,200 for his efforts. Mike Bailey was the early leader in the 30-lap modified feature from his pole position. Doug Pannepacker, using MOPAR power, gained the lead on the third lap. On the 12th lap Pannepacker was caught on the outside in the fourth turn on a restart and Terry Meitzler powered to the front. Mike Bailey came back for the top spot at the 13 lap marker. Pannepacker dropped out of the top five. Meitzler (Kutztown) was back in front with the Meitzler Excavating entry on the next lap and held off the challenges of both Mike Bailey and Tom Mayberry to take the victory. Second spot went to Bailey (Kutztown) followed by Tom Mayberry (Sellersville), Meme DeSantis (Blandon) and Bob Trapper (Scranton). DeSantis came from 20th starting spot to take a fourth and earn (unofficially) the Timber Wolf Smokeless Tobacco Hard Charger Award worth $200. In the 20 lap Late Model feature Bill Henning put his Dodge powered WNPV-AM Radio entry in front of the pack at the start. Junior Grebe (Boyertown) came from third to grab the front spot on the fourth lap. John Durling (Reading), an early season feature winner, gave chase and ran side-by side with the leader a couple of times. At the finish Grebe had his On Site Welding/Ralph's Novelties mount in front by just a narrow margin to grab his first win of the season. Grebe was also sporting a FOR SALE sign on his #73 NASCAR Late Model. Second spot went to John Durling followed by Rick Todorow (Quakertown), Chuck Sennott (Gilbertsville) and Kyle Pensinger (Lyons). Sixty three modifieds took part in the five qualifying heats with wins going to Smokey Warren, Chip Slocum, Terry Meitzler, Tom Mayberry and Jeff Strunk. Consolation victories were earned by Rick Schaffer, Kerry Kratz and Danny Erb. The Automotive Machining Services Cash Dash, worth $445, went to Terry Meitzler. In late model qualifiers the wins went to Junior Grebe, Bill Henning and Casey Ebright. The consolation was won by former champion John Giesler.
