Randy Stoudt takes Firecracker 40, Desantis back in victory lane with Modifieds at Grandview Speedway.

BECHTELSVILLE, PA JULY 6, 2002 . . . . For the fifth time this season Randy Stoudt (Pottstown) was a feature winner in the NASCAR Late Model division at Grandview Speedway on Saturday night. This win came in the prestigious Firecracker 40, the biggest event of the season for the Late Model stock cars. Meme DeSantis (Temple) was able to get back to victory lane after going through a dry spell for his third win of the season in the 30-lap NASCAR Weekly Racing Series presented by Dodge Modifieds.

Eight cautions dotted the first 10 laps of the Firecracker 40 while the lead was being exchanged between Mike Steinmetz, Doug Walton and Jason Miller. At the 10-lap marker Miller, a multi time feature winner in 2001 who has not been able to crack victory lane this season, was leading the pack with John Giesler, running one of the only six cylinder entries, running a strong second. Randy Stoudt, coming from 18th starting spot, had his hands full working his way through the pack. At the 29th lap Stoudt was able to put his Rogers Auto Parts entry in front of pack taking the lead from Miller. For the balance of the 40-lap event it was a three car battle between Stoudt, Miller and Giesler with Stoudt able to hold on to pick up a big check and his fifth win of the season.

Second spot went to Miller (Germansville) followed by John Giesler (Aston), Sam Schlosberg (Green Lane) and Kyle Pensinger (Lyon Station). In the 30-lap main event for the NASCAR Modifieds Paul Kline went to the front at the drop of the green but Cliff Quinn was able to take command on the third lap. At the sixth lap Meme DeSantis put the Norm's Save Station/Berks Meat Products #357 in front of the pack.

Cliff Quinn was able to hold second until the 12th lap when Smokey Warren brought the #178 Modified to the front. Jeff Strunk took second on the 17th lap and he and Warren swapped the runnerup position back and forth. At the 25 lap mark Craig VonDohren in the Mrs T's Pierogies entry, a winner of two features the night before at Big Diamond Raceway, was able to charge into second.

With just two laps to go John Willman made it interesting when he stopped on the backstretch bringing out a caution and closing up the field of cars to create a two lap shootout for the win. DeSantis, a master of the dirt arenas, was able to hold off the late race challenges of VonDohren and Strunk to grab his third win of the season and $2250.

Second spot went to VonDohren (Oley) followed by point leader Strunk (Bethel), Smokey Warren (Jonestown) and Rick Schaffer (Woxall). Qualifying heats for the NASCAR Modifieds were won by Jeff Strunk, DeSantis, Jamie Mills, Kevin Hartnett and Jon Kellner. The consolations with close to 60 cars on hand, went to Ryan Watt, Ray Swinehart and Steve Swinehart. The Automotive Machining Services Cash Dash was won by Jeff Strunk.

In the qualifying events for Late Models wins went to Rick Todorow, Chuck Schutz and Doug Walton while the consolation was won by Keith Brightbill. The Harry's U-Pull-It Cash Dash went to Rick Todorow.

The NASCAR Weekly Racing Series presented by Dodge Modifieds will be back in action on Saturday, July 13, 7:30 p.m. along with the Late Model stock cars. At least 12 events of stock car racing will make up Hatfield Quality Meats Night at Grandview Speedway.
