EXTRA DISTANCE NASCAR MODIFIED FEATURE TOPS APRIL 3 SHOW BECHTELSVILLE, PA MARCH 23, 1999 . . . NASCAR Modifieds will be the featured attraction in a tripleheader show of stock car racing that will open the 1999 season at Grandview Speedway on Saturday, April 3. The 5 p.m. card of auto racing action will also include sportsmen and late model stock car racing. A full series of qualifying events will be offer in each class of competition. The NASCAR Modifieds will top the evening program with a 37 lap feature race that celebrates the start of the 37th consecutive season of professional stock car racing at the Berks County clay oval. The extra distance event for modifieds will pay $3,000 to the winner. It is expected that more than 100 stock car racers will be on hand for the opening of the 1999 season. Heading up the action will be defending NASCAR modified champion Ray Swinehart of Bechtelsville, PA. The self- employed speed equipment business owner has chosen to field his own team this season. Swinehart will be looking to capture his third championship at the one-third-mile, clay oval. At the end of the 1998 season Swinehart and his car owner Mike Kelly took home more than $32,000 in NASCAR and track point fund money along with other special awards. Competition for Swinehart will come from a variety of challengers including Shawn Reimert, Tom Mayberry, John Willman, Jon Kellner, Kevin Hartnett, Dennis Bailey, Chip Slocum and a host of others. All of the racers planning to compete at Grandview Speedway this season are invited to take part in a free-to- the-public practice session at Grandview Speedway. The "test and tune" session will get the green flag at 12 noon on Saturday, March 27. Concession facilities will be open for the practice day activities. Admission for regular events at the NASCAR sanctioned track will stay at $10.00 for adults, $3.00 for young people 6 through 11, and under 6, with paying adult, is admitted free. As in past seasons Grandview Speedway and Big Diamond Raceway (Minersville, PA) will have a working relationship that helps contain the costs for the NASCAR Modifieds racing at both facilities. Grandview Speedway is located on Passmore Road, just off Route 100, 10 miles north of Pottstown, in Bechtelsville, PA.
