BECHTELSVILLE, PA APRIL 28, 2001 . . .Grandview Speedway officials were putting the $2200 first place money in the pay envelope marked Kerry Kratz. There were just three laps to go and Kratz had lead since the first lap. He had been holding off the strong challenges of Craig VonDohren. With two laps to go in the Saturday night 30-lap Budd Olsen Race Cars NASCAR Modified feature race, officials crossed out Kratz's name and replaced it with Craig VonDohren. The former track champion made a move with the Mrs T's Pierogies sponsored entry in the third turn, 28th lap, and grabbed the lead at the start finish line. VonDohren lead the final two laps to gain his first win of the season.

"Kerry was tough," said the Barto, PA racer in victory lane. " He bobbled a little in the turn. He was on top of me. It was just one lane. It was tough on tires but we were able to beat him. The Mrs T'S Pierogies crew is good. We are working on our program. Winning some of that NASCAR regional money would be nice.

In the 20-lap feature for NASCAR Late Models John Durling got his first win of the season in a down to the wire battle with defending track champion Dean Stoudt. And it was Ed Scott, New Tripoli, PA, getting his second win of the season with the PA Sportsman in their 15 lap feature.

Finishing second to VonDohren in the NASCAR Modified feature was Kerry Kratz with the Hatfield Quality Meats/Steve's Corner Deli entry. Third spot went to Keith Brightbill in an outstanding effort. Rick Schaffer was fourth while Tom Mayberry, winner the previous week, finished fifth.

In the lat model feature Dean Stoudt managed as strong second to winner John Durling (Reading) followed by young Sam Schlosberg, Ed Trimbur who lead the early laps and Buddy Wharton, a strong effort on his part.

Ed Scott lead all the laps in the 15 lap Sportsman feature with Dave Dissinger giving him quite a challenge. Third spot was earned by Chris Clemens who was tailed by Leroy Long and Jeff Geake.

Qualifying heat races for the more than 60 NASCAR Modifieds on hand went to Jeff Strunk, Ray Swinehart, Donny Erb, Keith Brightbill and Kerry Kratz. Consolation wins were earned by Doug Pannepacker, Brian Kressley and Todd Marburger. And in the Automotive Machining Services Cash Dash the win went to Donny Erb worth $510.
