*Rain Washes Out Saturday Practice, Season Opens On April 7
BECHTELSVILLE, PA March 31, 2001 . . . With a record setting turnout of NASCAR modifieds, late models, sportsman, sprint and midget race cars expected, MA NATURE decided to have one of her temper tantrums. Ma Nature brought heavy rain to Grandview Speedway in Bechtelsville, PA on Saturday morning, wiping out the "free-to-the-public" practice session that had been scheduled. "We already had saturated grounds from two days of rain but we felt we could get the track ready so the racers would get some practice time. When the rains (unforecasted) fell early in the morning, while we were working on the track, that was enough to put us out of business. We had to cancel the practice session. And that was disappointing to us, to the racers and to a lot of fans who were planning to attend," said event organizer Bruce Rogers.
The 39th consecutive season of professional stock car racing will get the green flag on Saturday, April 7 , 5 p.m. A tripleheader show of NASCAR Modifieds, Sportsman and Late Models will headline the action. And topping the program will be a 39 lap feature for the NASCAR Modifieds with $3,000 going to the winner. The entire month of April will feature tripleheaders on Saturdays at 5 p.m. featuring NASCAR Modifieds, Late Models and PA Sportsman.
