Not Fit For Man Or Beast At Grandview, Rain And Cold Postpone The Season Opener

BECHTELSVILLE, PA APRIL 7, 2001 . . . It was not fit for man or beast to be at Grandview Speedway on Saturday. Dark clouds, rain, cold weather and heavy rains headed to the area, forced promoter Bruce Rogers to postpone the Saturday racing action that had been planned to open the 2001 racing season.
Rogers and his crew had an early start on getting the track ready but it all went for nothing as the "bad weather" set in and washed out all their efforts.
The season opener, 39th consecutive season of professional stock car racing, has been reset for Saturday, April 14, 5 p.m. Included will be a 39-lap feature, paying $3,000 to win, for the NASCAR Modifieds. And there will be racing action for the PA Sportsman and Late Model stock cars.
In fact there will be tripleheader cards of racing for the stock cars also on April 21 and 28.
Heading up the action for each Saturday are such top talents as Kerry Kratz, Jeff Strunk, Glenn Strunk, Tom Mayberry, Terry Meitzler and a host of others.
Fans will have an opportunity to win a ride in the new two-seat modified stock car that Ray Swinehart and his J&L Speed Equipment staff built special just for the fans. One of the top modified talents will give two lucky winners rides around the one-third-mile, clay banked oval.
When the season opener is presented on Saturday, April 14, 5 p.m., it is expected that there will be more than 110 race cars in the competition area to entertain the fans.
Grandview Speedway is located on Passmore Road, just off Route 100 in Bechtelsville, PA, 10 miles north of Pottstown. For information telephone 610.754.7688 or visit their website at www.grandviewspeedway.com.
