LANGHORNE, PA September 4, 2000 .....Talented NASCAR Modified racer Jeff Strunk wheeled the Keith Harring owned Kenworth Cummins sponsored entry to a second straight Motor Truck Equipment Co. Kenworth Cummins Dual Track Championship. The championship, encompassing modified events run at Big Diamond Raceway in Minersville, PA and Grandview Speedway in Bechtelsville, PA will earn the Bethel, PA racer $15,000 from the $40,000 total point fund that had been posted. Strunk, the new NASCAR Modified track champion at Grandview Speedway, won five features (four at Grandview and one at Big Diamond) and earned 8585 points to win the title by just 105 points over Terry Meitzler. The Kutztown racer, winner of four features this season, lead the dual track title chase for much of the season. He finished with 8480 counters. Third spot in the final standings was earned by Meme DeSantis of Blandon, PA with 7855 counters. The veteran racer won three features at Grandview and two at Big Diamond. Following DeSantis was Glenn Strunk (Barto) and Kerry Kratz (Bechtelsville) each earning 7805 points. Strunk had no feature wins this season while Kratz was able to win one at Grandview. Ray Swinehart (Bechtelsville), a former dual track champion, finished in sixth spot with 7780 points. He had two feature wins coming at Big Diamond Raceway. Doug Manmiller (Sinking Spring, PA) was seventh in the final tabulations with 7590 counters. And following in eighth spot was Kutztown's Dennis Bailey with 7225 points. Youthful Shawn Reimert (Oley) grabbed 7190 points while tenth place Smokey Warren (Jonestown) had 6765 points Interesting note is that veteran racer Warren will be married in mid-October. Barry Readinger (Fleetwood) was able to amass 6580 points for 11th in the standings with some consistent performances. And it was John Willman (Zionsville) finishing in the money again this season with a 12th. John tallied 6365 points. Tom Umbenhauer (Richland) took 13th with 5760 points and was able to win two features at Big Diamond Raceway. Jeff Sechrist (Womelsdorf) earned 14th with 5760 followed by Bob Trapper (Scranton), 5095 points; Tracy Readinger (Oley), 5080 tallies and Brian Engle, Leesport, PA who had 4880. Each driver was required to run 10 modified events at each track (Big Diamond and Grandview) or at least half of the events run at each track. More than 70 drivers participated in the Motor Truck Equipment Co. Kenworth Cummins PA NASCAR Modified Championship Series with 17 drivers meeting the requirements to share in the $40,000 point fund. The cash awards will be presented at the Big Diamond Raceway and Grandview Speedway Awards Banquets held later in the year.
