Irwindale, Calif. - - The Saturday before Irwindale Speedway's second season begins has officially been designated, "IS Spring Training 2000" and will feature open practice sessions for all five of the regular weekly NASCAR divisions that race at the Speedway. That night has also been designated as a special pre-season "Open House" when the public is invited to get a complimentary insiders' view of car testing leading up to the track's March 25 opening.

"We decided to give all the fans a 'free sample' of what it'll be like at Irwindale in the 2000 season," said Robert De Fazio, VP/COO of the facility. "Almost all the drivers and crews will be here on that Saturday, getting themselves and their equipment tuned up, and we thought the fans would like to watch. So we're opening up our pre-season 'Spring Training' session to the public just like the Dodgers and the Angels do." This will not a be regular racing event show but fans will see plenty of on track race car action.

Scheduled to be on track on Saturday, March 18 are all five of Irwindale's regular NASCAR divisions (Super Late Model, Late Model, Super Stock, Grand American Modified, and Mini-Stock). The parking and grandstand admission will both free and will be open to the public from 5 pm to 9 pm.

Adding to the show is that fact that the first new season open practice session, scheduled for March 5, was completely washed out by the worst rain storm of the wet season. Now everyone who races in one of the Track's five regular weekly NASCAR classes who wants to get their car and crew squared-away before opening night will be at the Speedway for one last big day of practice. "The more the merrier," said De Fazio. "We'll make a fine show out of this for the fans."

"We think that we'll attract both dyed-in-the-wool fans and many of the families who have just not gotten around to visiting Irwindale as yet. Now they can get a look at our facility for free and find out how much fun being a fan at Irwindale really is."

Many local Chambers of Commerce, businesses, school, social, and civic groups will help to publicize the March 18 free Open House; using the event as an opportunity for their members to see the new Irwindale Speedway facility and to plan numerous promotional nights involving the track.

Fans are invited to come out to the Speedway to get a head start on the 2000 season. As mentioned before there will be no charge for either parking or grandstand entry. The Speedway's souvenir shop will be open and feature super-blow-out deals on collector item inaugural season merchandise. Of course the Speedway's snackbars will be in operation featuring a special $2.00 hot dog and soft drink combo package for everyone in attendance.

Irwindale Speedway is located at Live Oak Avenue and the 605 Freeway in the heart of the San Gabriel Valley about 18 miles East of downtown Los Angeles.
