THOMPSON, CT. The 30th annual running of the XTRAMART World Series of Speedway racing is scheduled for this Friday, Saturday and Sunday. This racing spectacular is a three-day, non-stop, race fans dream come true. Thirteen divisions made up of well over five hundred racecars are expected to participate.
Championships for the 2003 season are on the line in two of the major divisions competing in the World Series. The NASCAR Featherlite Modified Series title could easily go right down to the wire between Todd Szegedy, Chuck Hossfeld and John Blewett, III. The points race is so tight going into the final portion of the season that the championship could easily be claimed by of any one of these competitors.
The championship battle between Chris Perley and Russ Wood in the International Super Modified division will also be an edge-of-the-seat duel. The Thompson race will determine which driver will wear the ISMA crown for their 2003 efforts. For the Perley - Vic Miller team, a championship in 2003 would be their first. For Russ Wood and Paul Dunigan, it would be number seven and eight respectively.
The mighty NEMA Midgets will also play a major role in the Thompson program. These incredibly fast racecars always put on a great show and the NEMA driver0x201as roster features some very talented youngsters who will be cha llenging the tried and true veterans for the final win of their season.
The All Star Truck Series, Pro Four Modifieds, and three 0x201eoutlaw0x2030 divisions of racecars will join the Thompson Sunoco Modifieds, Pro Stocks, Late Models, Limited Sportsman and Mini Stocks. Add it all up and you have thirteen different and distinct racing divisions competing over the three-day period.
On Friday, October 17th, the gates will open for the XTRAMART World Series of Speedway Racing. Practice will begin at 9:30 AM and will continue until 5 PM. Qualifying races will then be held for seven of the thirteen divisions. Cars and trucks running qualifying races on Friday night will be the Limited Sportsman, Pro 4 Modifieds,
All Star Trucks, Mini Stocks and all three "outlaw" divisions. These competitors will then be ready for their feature events scheduled for Saturday evening beginning at around 7:30 PM.
Racecars qualifying on Saturday for feature event racing on Sunday will be the NASCAR Featherlite Modifieds, ISMA Super Modifieds, NEMA Midgets, Sunoco Modifieds, Pro Stocks and Late Models.
Grandstand will open at 4:30 PM on Friday and at 9AM on both Saturday and Sunday. A three-day ticket to the Thompson XTRAMART World Series of Speedway Racing is priced at just $40.00 for adults, $10.00 for juniors (11-15 years of age) and for youngsters (ages 5-10 years of age) a ticket is just $5.00.
