STAFFORD SPRINGS, CT (September 24, 2000)-- Jerry Marquis, of Broad Brook, CT took the lead of the race for the final time on a lap-250 restart and held off a hard charging John Blewett, III to win the CARQUEST Auto Parts 300, a NASCAR Featherlite Modified event at Stafford Motor Speedway in Stafford Springs, CT. Marquis entered the race 7-points behind Reggie Ruggerio in the chase for the NASCAR Featherlite Modified Series championship. The win, combined with Ruggerio's 5th place finish, moved Marquis back into the series points lead by 18-points. Marquis' road to victory lane wasn't an easy one.

On lap-188, Marquis and Tom Baldwin made contact in turn 2, which spun both cars out. Marquis visited pit road to change tires and straighten out the front end of his racecar. In post-race comments, Marquis credited this pit stop as his key to victory.

The final 100-laps of the caution marred event saw great racing at the front of the field between Reggie Ruggerio, Ted Christopher, Mike Ewanitsko, John Blewett, III, and Marquis. The lead swapped several times with Ruggerio, Ewanitsko, and Christopher all taking turns at the front of the field. But in the late stages of the race, Marquis moved to the lead, with Blewett on his bumper. Blewett was able to get alongside Marquis several times, but was unable to make the pass, saying that his car was just too loose to get a good run on Marquis.

The win was Marquis' first career Featherlite Modified Series win at Stafford Motor Speedway. Marquis was followed to the checkered flag by Blewett, Christopher, Rick Fuller, and Ruggerio.
