St. Johns, PA. . . . Pocono Mountain Speedway (formerly called Evergreen Raceway) is ready to begin the 2000 season. The racing begins Sunday April 2nd at 2:00 P.M. The Grandstands are ready to be filled with race fans. The new track configuration is ready to be challenged by the drivers. NASCAR type Modifieds, Late Models, Pro Stocks, Street Stocks and Factory Stocks will be the headline divisions. Many cars are expected, as Pocono Mountain Speedway is one of the few asphalt tracks to open the season the first weekend in April. Many former competitors of the track are expected to compete as well as many new ones. Race Teams from throughout the Northeast have indicated they will compete at Pocono Mountain Speedway. The Featherlite Modified Tour season opener is not until the end of April plus Modifieds, Late Models and Street Stocks from New Jersey, Connecticut, Mass. and New York have talked with officials of Pocono Mountain Speedway about rules, purse info and directions to get to the track.
Open Practice sessions are scheduled for Sunday, March 19th and Sunday, March 26th. Fans are welcome to attend and sit in the new grandstands for no charge. Competitors will use the two practice sessions to gear up for the exciting 2000 Racing Season Opener Sunday, April 2nd at 2:00 P.M.
