Watkins Glen, NY ( August 8, 2000 ) - Watkins Glen International announced today that '"Mr. Excitement", Jimmy Spencer will be talking with fans in a Fan Forum scheduled for Saturday of the Global Crossing @ The Glen weekend. Spencer, a two-time winner in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series, will be handling questions from fans in the Pit Terrace Grandstand following Saturday's Happy Hour afternoon practice session, scheduled to start at approximately 3:00 p.m. Track officials also announced today that Jimmy Spencer will be the Grand Marshal for The Glen 100K NASCAR Featherlite Modified event. A legend in the Modified Series for his exciting driving style and two championships, Spencer will give the command to start engines for Friday's event which is scheduled to start shortly after Winston Cup qualifying at approximately 4:00 p.m. "I've never been the best road racer but I love coming up to The Glen and I always have fun up there," said Spencer, a native of Berwick, PA. "The fans are the most important part of our sport and I really look forward to visiting with everybody up in the New York and Pennsylvania area. I started racing in Pennsylvania, those fans in the Northeast have supported me for my entire career." Spencer has Winston Cup victories at both Talladega Superspeedway and Daytona International Speedway. Among other topics, he will be discussing the transition drivers encounter going from oval track racing to road racing and answering any questions the fans may have. As driver of the No. 26 K-Mart Ford, Jimmy has long been a fan favorite for his likeable personality and is known for staying in contact with the fans that have followed his career. Spencer made his debut in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series in 1989 and scored both career victories driving for legendary car owner Junior Johnson in 1994.
