1999 Featherlite Modified Series schedule set
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. Nov. 18, 1998) A new event on Labor Day weekend at Riverside Park Speedway in Agawam, Mass., and a brand new date at Richmond International Raceway highlight a 21-race schedule for the Featherlite Modified Series, a part of the NASCAR Touring Division, in 1999.
NASCAR's only open-wheeled touring division will commence its 15th season at Riverside Park on March 28, and return for a second event, for the first time in eight years, on Sept. 4.
The series will travel to the Richmond (Va.) International Raceway for its first race ever on a Thursday night on May 13. The event is part of the track's annual spring NASCAR Winston Cup Series weekend.
The Martinsville (Va.) Speedway will host the series again in 1999. For the first time in series history the race will be held during the traditional fall NASCAR Winston Cup Series weekend on Oct. 2.
Another series first will occur at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International, the only road circuit on the schedule. The series' annual visit will take place during the NASCAR Winston Cup weekend on Aug. 14.
The New Hampshire International Speedway will host the series three times in 1999. In July and September the series will be joined by the NASCAR Winston Cup Series and Busch North Series, NASCAR Touring. The August tripleheader will feature the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and the Busch North Series in addition to the Featherlite Modified Series.
The Stafford Motor Speedway in Stafford Springs, Conn., will host the series four times in 1999, including the tradition-laden Spring Sizzler on April 25, and a 300-lap grind on Sept. 26.
New Thompson (Conn.) Speedway has four race dates scheduled for the 1999 season. On July 22, a 150-lap contest will mark the series' first Thursday night race ever at the 5/8-mile oval.
The Riverhead (N.Y.) Raceway will see the series invade Long Island twice in 1999. The first visit will be on June 12 and the second on Aug. 7.
The series will make two excursions to Pennsylvania in 1999. The first will be at the Nazareth Speedway on May 23, along with the NASCAR Busch Series Grand National Division. The second will take place at the Jennerstown Speedway on June 19.
The only upstate New York oval appearance for the series will occur on July 17 at the Holland Speedway.
