Irwindale, Calif. - - After more than a month's absence from the track those wild and hairy Figure 8 racers will be back to help the fans celebrate an early 4th of July at the Irwindale oval. Saturday, July 1 is the day set for the star-spangled return of the criss-cross races to the fast and furious Irwindale Figure 8 course.

Dean Foods will be the presenting sponsor of the night's festivities. If that name isn't familiar, try Alta Dena Dairy as in the "Alta Dena Milk Chugs Driver Autograph Session" which occurs before every race. Dean Foods, one of the nation's largest dairy food producers, is Alta Dena's parent company.

Fans of the flying fickle finger of fate that the facile Figure 8 drivers tempt on every lap will get their fill of action on Saturday night. All it takes to be a Figure 8 driver is a good car, a good motor, a right foot that will stay firmly planted on the gas pedal and a "Get the heck out of my way, because I'm coming through!" mental attitude. That, some luck, and a lack of imagination (like about what would happen to you if you made a driving error) are a few of the keys to a win in this totally uncontrollable, totally outrageous, totally nuts, form of motorsport.

Also on the card for the 4th of July looooong weekend kickoff night are the NASCAR Late Models, Grand American Modifieds, and Super Stocks plus the always colorful (and plentiful) Legends Cars. It all shapes up as a grand night for a family outing to Irwindale. Super-competitive NASCAR racing, Dazzling fireworks, and fabulous Figure 8 fun … Hey, who's complaining?
