Bristol A Lucky 13 For Jimmy Britts
Bristol, TN. - The trip to Bristol Motor Speedway appeared to be over early Wednesday night. The #92 NASCAR Goody's Dash NAPA / Horsepower by Hedrick Pontiac Sunfire was eighth fast in practice when a failed oil heater took out the engine. With no chance of changing motors due to time constraints, Britts had begun to accept the fact that he would have to start the race on a provisional and park the car after the first lap. But Gary Moore, a car owner who prepares as many as 5 cars to run every week for different drivers, made an offer Jimmy could not refuse. He knew Britts was in the point battle and offered to put Jimmy in a back up car "Because I really want to see what this car can do". The car had the only 4-cylinder engine in the field of 28.
Jimmy took the 00 car with 1 lap of practice and qualified it 21st. The crew made several adjustments to the car and sent him out to face the high banks of Bristol. The field took the green flag and after a couple of caution periods and restarts Jimmy was in 7th position. On the next caution Britts made a pit stop for a splash of fuel restarting from the 19th spot. Jimmy charged hard, getting back up to 10th before the dash around the ignition started to catch on fire. He was able to put out the fire but not before losing several laps. He fought his way back to a 13th place finish and maintained 9th place in the points. "We were good on long runs, once the 4-cylinder got wound up I could run with anybody. I'd like to thank Gary Moore for helping me out, guys like that are what make this series a great place to race" Britts commented.
The next race is at Ace Speedway in Altamaha, NC on September 22nd. Jimmy was the '00 Bud Pole Award Winner, '99 Goody's Dash Rookie of the Year, '95 All Pro Series Rookie of the Year and '96 Florida Pro Series Champion.
