Rogelio Lopez To Make First Watkins Glen Start

Watkins Glen, N.Y. (June 6, 2008) - TELMEX/Lucas Oil Chevrolet driver Rogelio Lopez will make his first start at the historic Watkins Glen International road course on Sunday during the running of the NASCAR Camping World Series 125-mile event here. The race, which is for drivers in NASCAR's premier developmental series, is the first held at Watkins Glen since 2004.

Lopez, from Aguascalientes, Mexico, will be driving a brand new car built by his Dave Davis Motorsports team. The first time it sees the track will be when Lopez takes it out for practice on Friday afternoon.

"I asked some other drivers for their advice," he said. "TELMEX has a Grand Am team here with Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas and I asked them for some pointers. They told me a couple of secrets but I won't be able to put those into practice until I get on the track and start learning the braking and turning points."

Lopez has been moving up in the Camping World Series points and now sits ninth after three of thirteen races.

"We're getting some momentum with a good result last week so we're moving up in the points," he said. "I hope to continue that with a win here on Sunday."

Practice is being held on Friday with two sessions, the first starting at 1:25 p.m. and the second at 5:35 p.m. Qualifying takes place on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. with the race starting at 12:30 p.m. Sunday. It will be taped by SpeedTV for broadcast at a later date.
